News: Ralph Stanley Hospitalized with Pneumonia

Music NewsBMNN wrote: on Jan. 05, 2007:
/James A. Shelton/ - Ralph Stanley has been hospitalized in Lonesome Pine Hospital in Big Stone Gap, VA with pneumonia. He has been in the hospital since Tuesday evening but thought that he might be released tonight. We had to wait for Ralph's doctor to come by tonight (Thursday) and see whether he could be released to perform this weekend as we have shows booked in Shepherdsville, KY on Friday and Clay City, KY on Saturday. Although he said he felt pretty good, the doctor came by about 10:00 pm and said Ralph still had 30% pneumonia in his lungs and that they want to keep him in the hospital until Sunday. Ralph notified me of the doctor's decision and asked me to call the promoters and see what they wanted to do.

James A. Shelton guitarist/ road manager for Ralph Stanley & The CMB's called both C. R. Wilson at Shepherdsville and Don Rogers at Clay City and has decided to proceed with the shows with Ralph Stanley II & The Clinch Mountain Boys. Admission price will be reduced from $20 to $15 at both shows. Ralph II's last two albums "Stanley Blues" and "Carrying On" have been nominated for Grammy's.

The Friday Jan. 5 show will be at the Shepherdsville Music Barn at 8:00 pm with Tommy Brown & The County Line Grass as our opening band.

We have two shows on Saturday Jan. 6 at Meadowgreen Park in Clay City. There will be an afternoon show at 3:00 pm and and evening show at 8:00 pm. Rob Morgan & Higher Vision will be our opening band.

For anyone interested in coming out to the shows, Ralph Stanley II and the Clinch Mountain Boys will do their absolute best to give you an entertaining show. We are sorry for any inconvenience, but we must keep in mind that it is in Ralph's best interest to stay in the hospital until he is completely well again. Ralph is planning to be back out on the road next week. Here is our schedule for next weekend:

Jan. 11- Winston-Salem, NC- The Stevens Center
Jan. 12 Asheville, NC- The Orange Peel
Jan. 13 Galax, VA- Fairview Ruritan Club
Jan. 14 Appomattox, VA- Appomattox High School

Note: Update: Ralph is doing much better. He will wait until Sunday to return home. Future performance dates will depend on his condition.

Update 2Ralph Stanley was released from the hospital Saturday night and says that he is "feeling pretty good". He's looking forward to this weeks schedule (see above).
