 News: Dollywood Dixie Stampede Performers Selected as Dolly Parton's Opening Act

Music NewsBMNN wrote: on May 18, 2007:
Pigeon Forge, TN - Seven local performers from Dollywood theme park and Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede dinner attraction will perform as the opening act for Dolly Parton's May 20 fundraising concert at 7:30 p.m. at Smokies Stadium.

"I'm really blessed that some of the most talented performers anywhere are working at Dollywood and Dixie Stampede," Parton said. "And I can't wait to shine the spotlight on our local talent on May 20th. Their performances will just make this concert even more special to me."

Dixie Stampede master of ceremonies Jay Teter serves in that same capacity during the opening act. Teter is currently performing in his 10th season at Dixie Stampede, which is celebrating its 20th year of operation in Pigeon Forge. An Edwardsburg, Mich., native, Teter will perform the concert's opening song as well as introduce the six Dollywood vocalists who will entertain prior to Parton taking the stage.

Dollywood performers, each of whom will sing one song, include:

Cincinnati native Ashley Black, a member of Dollywood's Country Crossroads cast, who is performing in her fourth season;

Melbourne, Ky., native Megan Marie Dillon, a member of Dollywood's Imagination Playhouse starring the Penguin Players cast, who is performing in her first season;

Atlanta native Brad Gibson, a member of Dollywood's Dreamland Drive-In cast, who is performing in his first season;

Viola, Tenn.; native Naomi Grace McCandless, a member of Naomi & the Wood Brothers, Dollywood's signature bluegrass band, who is performing in her fourth season;

Jefferson City, Tenn., native Anthony Manning, a member of Dollywood's award-winning Dreamland Drive-In cast, who is performing in his eighth season;

Johnson City , Tenn., native Scott Self, a member of Dollywood's new The Great American Country Show cast, who is performing in his 16th season.

Proceeds from the concert will support construction of a new Fort Sanders Sevier Hospital facility. Parton announced a $500,000 contribution to the fundraising campaign from her Dixie Stampede and Dollywood Foundation in December 2006.

Tickets are available at all Tickets Unlimited outlets; by phone at 865-656-4444 or 877-995-9961 or online at www.knoxvilletickets.com or www.concertsinthesmokies.com. Ticket prices range from $33 to $150 each. Tickets are not available for purchase through Dollywood, the Dr. Thomas Foundation or Fort Sanders Sevier Medical Center.

Dollywood is a 130-acre family adventure park in Pigeon Forge, Tenn. Open nine months a year (March 31-Dec. 30), Dollywood offers more than 40 rides and attractions; award-winning live entertainment featuring country, bluegrass, gospel and mountain music; and a dozen crafters authentic to the East Tennessee region. Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede is a unique dinner and show experience set in an 85,000-square-foot facility featuring 32 magnificent horses, dozens of cast members, live buffalo, ostrich races, illusions, music and more. With seating to accommodate 1,000 guests, the show is highlighted by a four-course meal.
