Cybergrass Bluegrass Music News: Dixie Bee-Liners Win Roots Music Association Bluegrass Artist

The Roots Music Association has announced the winners of the 2008 awards. This year's award nomination and voting process was Internet only and covered a range of artists and industries supporting the music. The range of roots music encompassed everything from blues to bluegrass. Industries included promoters, publicists, record labels, radio stations and more.

Cybergrass was in the top five nominations for Publishing Company of the year and the award went to Delta Groove Productions a west coast blues and roots publication. Blue Circle, Fake Cabin, Balmy Swami were the other three nominees in this category.

In the bluegrass category, the nominations for Bluegrass Artist of the Year were the Lonesome River Band, The Dixie Bee-Liners, The Steeldrivers, Merle Haggard and Alison Krauss. The award went to The Dixie Bee-Liners! The Dixie Bee-Liners' Brandi Hart was also nominated for Bluegrass Songwriter of the Year.

As for the Bluegrass Record Label of the Year, the nominations included Pinecastle Records, Rounder, Sugar Hill, Skaggs Family Records and Rural Rhythm Records. Pinecastle Records took the honors for the Bluegrass Label of the year while Sugar Hill captures Folk Label of the Year honors.

Tim Crosby, Dennis Nelson, Brandi Hart, Charlie Sizemore and Steve Gully were the nominees for Bluegrass Songwriter of the Year. Dennis Nelson captured the award in this category.

The Bluegrass Radio Station of the Year award went to Sirius Bluegrass' Channel 65 Bluegrass Junction. Others up for the award included Into the Blue, WDVX, KEOS and WKZE radio. Sirius captured another award for their Channel 63 Outlaw Country which, garnered the Roots/Americana Country Radio Station of the Year title.

Pete Knapp took home the title for Promoter of the year for Americana Radio Promotion.

The Roots Americana Artist of the Year title went to Emmylou Harris. Other contenders included Roger Creager, Chris Knight, Yarn and the Eli Young Band.

Roots/Americana Country Songwriter of the Year honors were handed to Chris Knight.
