Announcement: Dan Boner and ETSU Bluegrass Band Play Carter Family Fold

Event NewsBMNN wrote: on Jan. 13, 2009:
Daniel BonerSaturday, January 17th, 2009, at 7:30 p.m. the Carter Family Fold in Hiltons, Virginia, will present a concert by Daniel Boner and the ETSU Bluegrass Band. Adult admission to the concert is $5, $1 for children 6 to 11, and under age 6 free. Daniel has been well-known to bluegrass concertgoers for several years now. Originally from Bridgeton, New Jersey, Daniel moved to the Tri Cities area in 2000 to pursue a Bachelor of Music degree at East Tennessee State University. It was during his studies that he toured extensively with the ETSU Bluegrass Pride Band and the ETSU Men’s Ensemble regionally and internationally in venues that include the Vatican in Rome; NATO Headquarters in Brussels, Belgium; and the White House. In 2003, Daniel represented Appalachia at the Smithsonian National Folklife Festival in Washington, D.C.

Daniel has made concert tours of Italy, Germany, Belgium, Canada, England, and Scotland. He has toured Japan three times. Daniel also tours part-time with bluegrass shamisen virtuoso, Takeharu Kunimoto. He has performed onstage with many bluegrass and country stars including Ralph Stanley, Jesse McReynolds, Rhonda Vincent, Alison Krauss and the late Porter Wagoner.

In 2007, Daniel was hired as the Assistant Director of the East Tennessee State University Bluegrass Old Time and Country Music Program. Former students of this highly regarded institution include multi-award winning bluegrass artists Tim Stafford (Blue Highway), Barry Bales (Alison Krauss & Union Station), Adam Steffey (Dan Tyminski Band), Becky Buller (Valerie Smith & Liberty Pike), Hunter Berry (Rhonda Vincent & The Rage), and country music superstar Kenny Chesney.

In May 2007, Daniel Boner recorded his latest album, The Gospel Way. The album features nine original compositions and several other traditional songs arranged by Daniel and his band Daysight with guest artists Becky Buller and J.P. Mathes. Daniel will be accompanied by students enrolled in the ETSU Bluegrass program and other special guests. Go to www.dansmusiconline.com for more information on Daniel. For information on the ETSU Bluegrass Band and the ETSU Bluegrass and Country Music Program, go to www.etsu.edu/cass/bluegrass.

For some of the finest bluegrass music around, be sure to catch Daniel Boner and the ETSU Bluegrass Band at the Carter Fold. Their instrumentals will amaze you, and their harmony will take your breath away. Don't forget your dancing shoes, either!
