Shanachie Records will release Volumes 7 and 8 of their fantastic series of DVDs of the Flatt & Scruggs TV Shows from the 1950s and '60s on February 24, 2009. These upcoming volumes include the earliest surviving show, from 1956 (the band began doing these shows in 1955). Curly Seckler is featured on tenor vocals and mandolin on both volumes, and on one of them he sings one of his trademark solos, "What's the Matter Now." These DVDs will also be available from Curly at his shows and from his web site: www.CurlySeckler.net.

Flatt and Scruggs are one of the most popular bluegrass bands of all time. Along with Bill Monroe, they propelled this great style into a widely successful and artistically praised musical format. The Best of the Flatt and Scruggs TV Show series contains the best musical performances from a long lost TV show taped in the 1950s and 1960s.

Never available before, this footage features Flatt and Scruggs in their prime with their group the Foggy Mountain Boys playing many of their most famous songs as well as many other bluegrass classics.

Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs are two of the founding fathers of bluegrass music and their names are legendary to any fan of bluegrass music. The Best of the Flatt and Scruggs TV Show consists of live music performances with their group the Foggy Mountain Boys from a never before available TV show they did in their prime in the 1950s and early 1960s. These releases are a major event in the bluegrass community and with bluegrass fans worldwide.

Bluegrass legend Curly Seckler began his career in music in 1935, performing with his brothers on WSTP radio in Salisbury, NC. In1939 he hit the big time, when Charlie Monroe recruited him to sing harmony in his new band after the breakup of the Monroe Brothers. Curly Seckler & Charlie Monroe circa 1946

Curly worked several stints with Charlie Monroe early in his career. He also teamed with various other bluegrass pioneers, including Jim and Jesse McReynolds, Mac Wiseman, The Sauceman Brothers, and The Stanley Brothers.

In 1949 Curly joined Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs' Foggy Mountain Boys, as tenor singer and mandolinist. Except for a couple of brief absences, he remained with Flatt & Scruggs until 1962. During that time he recorded well over 100 songs with them, including many of their best known and most popular hits ("Roll in My Sweet Baby's Arms," "Salty Dog Blues," I'll Stay Around," "I'll Go Stepping Too," "Dim Lights, Thick Smoke," etc.).
