Launching the end of September, TradTunes.com will be offering unique access to over 9,000 music tracks to anyone with the right equipment to download music from the internet. Given the success of MP3 players and Apple’s iPOD, TradTunes is very excited about the opportunity to offer much this music for the first time ever.

The idea is the brainchild of Alasdair MacCuish and John-Angus Smith, both well known Scottish traditional musicians – Alasdair as a nationally renowned musician and a former Scottish accordion champion, and John-Angus as an internationally known piper. Both are from families in North and South Uist in the Outer Hebrides, hence the name of their company, Uist Media Group (UMG).

A growing increase in popularity for traditional Scottish and Celtic music prompted the pair to start thinking of how they could take the music they grew up with to a worldwide audience.

Alasdair said: “Music is now in the digital age and we recognized that none of the bigger music download companies were catering to the traditional, Celtic and roots music markets.”
