Announcement: Bill Knowlton's 37th annual 'Bluegrass Ramble Picnic' Aug 2

Event NewsBMNN wrote: on Aug. 01, 2009:
Bill Knowlton's 37th annual "Bluegrass Ramble Picnic" takes place on Sunday, August 2nd; as usual at Dwyer Memorial Park, the home of the Cortland Repertory Theater, in Little York NY. New at this year's Picnic (the oldest bluegrass music festival in the New York, New England and Pennsylvania area) will be Lake Effect from the Oswego area, McWilliams Hardware featuring Dana "Short Order" Cooke and Joe Cleveland; The Salt Potatoes, known for their playing for contradances in Central New York; Off The Wall from Central New York; and The River Grass Band, bluegrass musicians who are members of the Thousand Islands Bluegrass Preservation Society.

Returning bands include: The Gospel Way from Cortland and vicinity, Boots 'N' Shorts: a young band from Syracuse, Northwater with Dana Klipp & Cliff Chandler (2009 winner of the DeFord Bailey Harmonica Contest at Uncle Dave Macon Days, Murfreesboro, TN), Blue Lightning: teenage bluegrassers from the Rome area, Diamond Someday (Syracuse area), Joe Lemay & Sherri Reese (KY), and Bill & Maggie Anderson (VA): who contribute monthy 15 minute radio shows to WCNY-FM's "Bluegrass Ramble" radio show, Rebecca Colleen & The Chore Lads who appeared last year as the McDonald Family, The Lost Boys with SAMMY Award winner, songwriter John Cadley, Sean Martin: teenage Central NY fiddler, The Salmon River Boys who have appeared at all 36 Bluegrass Ramble Picnics, and The Delaney Brothers: as always, the Picnic's host band. Band schedule is subject to change without notice.

The Picnic is free, and all of the bands donate their musical services. It runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and is held in a huge tent so weather is not a problem. WCNY-FM records the entire show for a broadcast on Classic FM the following spring.

Food and beverages will be available and the Picnic hosts arts & crafts vendors and band tables with CDs and bluegrass souvenirs. In addition Custom Pearl Inlay, Malone NY, will donate a Martin Guitar to be raffled to help pay annual expenses.

Attendees should bring lawn chairs.

Dwyer Memorial Park is south of Exit 13 (Preble) off I-81; drive south on Rt. 281 to Little York.

Further information is available by calling 315-457-6100, or by listening Sunday night to Bill Knowlton's "Bluegrass Ramble," 9 pm to midnight EDST on WCNY-FM (91.3) Syracuse; WUNY-FM, Utica (89.5) or WJNY-FM (90.9) Watertown NY and Southern Ontario. Also online at www.wcny.org.
