Announcement: Bluegrass On The Mountain November 7th

Event NewsBMNN wrote: on Oct. 20, 2009:
Michael Cleveland and FlamekeeperSong of the Mountains, hosted by Tim White, will feature the award winning bluegrass music greats Michael Cleveland & Flamekeeper, Russell Moore & IIIrd Tyme Out and Williams & Clark expedition for their program which will be taped on November 7th. Song of the Mountains showcases the best talents in bluegrass and old-time music from the heart of the region where it all began.

The live music concerts are held monthly at the Lincoln Theatre in Marion, Virginia with many shows videotaped for the award winning television series which can be seen on public television affiliates throughout the country. This will be a taped concert featuring a good variety of top bluegrass music representing today's bluegrass sound.

Award-winning fiddler Michael Cleveland brings dynamic traditional bluegrass to the stage with his band, Flamekeeper, in a show that will leave the audience talking. A seven-time winner of the International Bluegrass Music Association's Fiddle Performer of the Year award, Mike and his talented band present a program of tight vocal trios and duos, blistering instrumentals, and fiddle-and-banjo duets that echo the first-generation stars of bluegrass. The show is rounded out with Mike's dry wit and the band's sense of fun.

Considered one of the premier bluegrass fiddlers of his generation, Mike picked up a fiddle at age four, and his talent was recognized early. In 1993 he was chosen to be part of the Bluegrass Youth All Stars at the IBMA’s award show. Later that year Mike made his Grand Ole Opry debut as a guest of Alison Krauss. His list of guest appearances over the years is a who's who of bluegrass legends including Bill Monroe, Jim and Jesse, Ralph Stanley, Mac Wiseman, Doc Watson, Larry Sparks, Doyle Lawson, and J.D. Crowe.

Success for Russell Moore & IIIrd Tyme Out was nearly an overnight occurrence for this group after its forming in 1991. Led by the International Bluegrass Music Association's (IBMA) 2-time "Male Vocalist Of The Year", Russell Moore, IIIrd Tyme Out, consisting of Moore (guitar), Steve Dilling (banjo), Justen Haynes (fiddle), Wayne Benson (mandolin), and Edgar Loudermilk (bass), has walked away with IBMA's "Vocal Group Of The Year" award 7 consecutive years.

All in all, the band has garnered 50 industry awards since their inception in 1991. Their a cappella renditions of many songs, featuring one of the most respected lead vocalists of all time, can rarely be matched and their superb instrumentation, from some of the best musicians in the business, provides even more quality sound to their rich vocal blend. All this along with a heavy touring schedule, including many performances on the Grand Ole Opry as well as GAC and RFD channel programs, over 14 recordings to date, and a desire to present their fans with the best music possible, makes this "supergroup" one of bluegrass music's most recognized and in-demand bands in the genre's history.

Williams & Clark Expedition could be described by some as a new band on the bluegrass scene. But when you consider the members of the group are Blake Williams, Bobby Clark, Wayne Southards and Kimberly Williams, you know this is not a group of newcomers. All have very impressive musical credentials, having worked for the music’s forefathers, Bill Monroe and Lester Flatt, as well as second generation bluegrass bands, The Bluegrass Cardinals and Tennessee Gentlemen, and more current artists such as Mike Snider, Kathy Chiavola and Larry Cordle. No one can deny the bluegrass pedigree of Williams & Clark Expedition’s members. What is surprising to most, is the band voice that was created when these talented people formed this band just over 8 years ago.
