New Release: Steve Wariner Supports Nov. 10th Release of Chet Atkins Tribute

New ReleasesBMNN wrote: on Nov. 10, 2009:
Chet TributeNashville, TN -- Grammy-winning recording artist Steve Wariner will support Tuesday's release of his tribute to Chet Atkins with a slew of media appearances. Steve Wariner, c.g.p., My Tribute to Chet Atkins, produced by Wariner, is a collection of 11 songs in which he honors the legendary guitarist and producer who was also his friend, mentor, producer and former employer. The album is available on Wariner's own SelecTone Records, distributed by Allegro Media Group.

Wariner will also be making a slate of media appearances that include:
  • On Tuesday, November 10, Wariner will visit with 50 top country radio stations during Premiere Radio's CMA Awards remotes.

  • His interview with host Suzanne Alexander on GAC Nights will air on Wednesday, November 11, at 8 p.m., with re-airings at 12 midnight and on Thursday, November 12, at 12 noon (all times eastern). A portion of that interview will air on GAC's On the Streets on Tuesday, November 10.

  • On Friday, November 13, Steve will sign copies of the CD at Opry Originals, the Opry store in downtown Nashville, from 5:30-6:30 p.m., prior to his Opry at the Ryman appearance.

  • Steve recently sat down with Kix Brooks, host of American Country Countdown, to record an interview for ACC's "Still in Tune" feature, which will air during the weekend of November 14-15.

  • Steve also recorded an interview with Marcia Campbell for the Dave Nemo show on Road Dog Trucking (Sirius 147, XM 171) that will air on Saturday, November 14, at 10:00 a.m. eastern.

  • Steve will be featured in the November 23 issue of Country Weekly, on stands November 16.

  • He will be Eddie Stubbs' in-studio guest on 650 AM WSM on Monday, November 16.

  • He will also appear on Ralph Emery Live on RFD on Monday, November 23, at 7:00 p.m. eastern.

With this project, Wariner has been featured in Vintage Guitar, Guitar Player, Billboard, The Tennessean, Mix, Nashville Musician and Country Music People, among others. He has also completed interviews with Recording, Fingerstyle Guitar, CMT.com, Westwood One's Country Gold and AOL's The Boot. He has appeared on The Ernest Tubb Midnite Jamboree, Crook & Chase, Inside Music Row, The Country Vibe with Chuck and Becca and Tennessee Crossroads.

For the album, Wariner took a unique approach and did more than simply play Atkins' songs. As he has repeatedly stated, "You can't out-Chet Chet." Instead, Wariner arranged the album as a rough timeline of Atkins' life, taking the listener on a journey through the wide range of material that Atkins recorded—from his early days playing the mountain music of his native Luttrell, Tennessee, to swing, rockabilly, pop, folk and jazz. Wariner includes his versions of some of the songs that Atkins recorded or performed--"Back Home Again in Indiana," "John Henry" and "Blue Angel, as well as "Producer's Medley," featuring some of the many hits that Chet produced for other artists—but the bulk of the album consists of original songs Steve wrote in the various styles that Atkins made famous.

Early reviews of Steve Wariner, c.g.p., My Tribute to Chet Atkins have been overwhelmingly positive, including the following:

"This is such a wonderful CD. No one has ever captured my father's touch like Steve. I think every lick that Daddy ever did is on this recording. Thank you, Steve, for keeping his playing alive."
- Merle Atkins, Daughter of Chet and Leona Atkins

"I just listened to the ‘Tribute to Chet' head to toe. I love it! It made me fall in love with my guitar all over again!"
- Legendary guitarist Eric Johnson

"...a tour de force tribute to the man he calls his boss, producer, musical mentor, and friend...This fabulous collection of mostly original songs spotlights the amazing fingerstyle talent that Wariner possesses, as well as his deep knowledge of Atkins' signature guitar style."
- Art Thompson, Guitar Player Magazine

"The keys to the song's (indeed all the songs') success are Wariner's mastery of the subtleties of Atkins' style, not the flash--something as simple as the way Chet would dip the whammy bar 'just so'...he probably comes as close to Chet's spirit—that ability to be laid-back and energetic at the same time, making daunting passages appear effortless—as anyone ever has."
- Dan Forte, Vintage Guitar
