Education: ICMC Announces 'Bluegrass Tour Du Force' 2010

LearningBMNN wrote: on Nov. 19, 2009:
The International Country Music Conference is pleased to share with you further information regarding the Bluegrass Tour Du Force Thursday afternoon 27 May 2010. Dr. David Johnson of Great Bay Community College in Portsmouth, New Hampshire will be presenting on "Issues of Methodology and Analysis in Celebrity Autobiography and Academic Biography: Focus on Ralph Stanley." Other Bluegrass presentations will be detailed in future ICMC eblurbs. As previously announced, Dr. Joti Rockwell will be discussing "Gestural Translation and Innovation in Bluegrass Fiddle Tunes."

Combined with the Friday, 28 May Charles K. Wolfe Memorial Panel focusing on Dr. Neil Rosenberg's Bluegrass: A History, Bluegrass Music will be well represented at ICMC 2010! Dr. Erika Brady will be moderating the Wolfe Panel that includes Dr. Neil Rosenberg, Ms. Murphy Henry, Mr. Kevin Kehrberg, and Dr. David Royko. In addition, the Thursday evening 27 May Rounder Records keynote will have a strong Bluegrass component. As always, the food, cordial atmosphere, and amenities of The Frist Lecture Hall will further enhance the ICMC experience.

The ICMC registration fee is $125 and will include substantial food offerings at breakfast, luncheons, and evening socials. Please send your registration fee no later than Friday 21 May 2010 to James E. Akenson, Box 5042 Tennessee Technological University, Cookeville, TN 38505. You may wish to use the PDF registration form at www.InternationalCountryMusic.org.

Informal picking will be lead by Mike Fleming and Bill Brown so bring your instrument!

There is no official ICMC hotel. West End Avenue hotels are quite convenient. The Holiday Inn Select on West End Avenue near the Vanderbilt campus and across from Centennial Park is used by many ICMC participants. Other West End hotels include two Hampton Inns and a Courtyard by Marriott. Nashville has the complete range of hotel chains which can be accessed by their respective web pages. You might investigate the Vanderbilt University Scarritt Center for slightly less costly housing by clicking here. A limited number of Belmont University dormitory rooms are available for persons who wish to substantially cut their lodging costs. The cost is $35 per night. If interested, please contact Don Cusic at Don.Cusic@belmont.edu.
