New Product: Bob Iery's New Board Game Takes Players on Bluegrass Routes

Music NewsBob_Cherry wrote: on Mar. 10, 2010:
Bluegrass RoutesRetired school teacher, Bob Iery, from Maysville, Kentucky has just released an interesting board game for bluegrass music fans. The new game, Bluegrass Routes challenges the players on their knowledge of all things bluegrass music. According to Iery, "The name of the game Bluegrass Routes is a play on words. The object of the game is to assemble a five piece bluegrass band as you travel the 'routes' of the banjo shaped board playing this wonderful 'roots' music."

Iery has been a bluegrass music fan since the early '70s. Although he wasn't a pro singer or picker, he did want to contribute something to the music he loved and enjoyed over the years.

Iery tells us, "I came up with the idea of a bluegrass music trivia board game about four years ago and started marketing the finished product in February." He continues saying, "I designed the game for the real bluegrass fan. It took about a year for me to research many resources to come up with what I believe are very interesting bluegrass trivia questions."

As we noted earlier, the object of the game is to assemble a five piece bluegrass band as you travel the "routes" of the banjo shaped board playing this wonderful "roots" music. To assemble this band, you must correctly answer trivia questions from five categories

  • Legends & Pioneers
  • Brothers & Misfits
  • Songs
  • Bands & Bandleaders
  • Sidemen
Iery tells us that the "1200 interesting questions cover the history of bluegrass from the beginning (even pre-bluegrass) to the present. Be careful, though, because just like real bluegrass bands, you can also lose band members along the way. Once you have assembled your band, you must then travel to the stage of Sally Mountain Bluegrass Park and answer a question to win the game."

"One of the most enjoyable aspects in developing the game was getting trivial information from the bluegrass musicians themselves and seeing the excitement that they had in the fact that someone would actually create a board game on their music" notes Iery.

The game would make a nice unique gift for the bluegrass lover. In addition, the game is a great way to spend some time at that bluegrass festival campsite showing your friends who the real bluegrass expert is.

Bluegrass Routes can be ordered online at www.bluegrassgame.com or you may catch me at one of the bluegrass festivals around the country.
