News: Birthplace of Country Music Alliance Presents a Tribute to Dr. Ralph Stanley

Music NewsBMNN wrote: on Mar. 17, 2010:
Ralph StanleyBristol, TN-VA -- The Birthplace of Country Music Alliance presents a tribute to Dr. Ralph Stanley at The Paramount Center for the Arts on Sunday April 11, 2010 at 3pm. Proceeds from the concert will benefit the Ralph Stanley Museum and Traditional Mountain Music Center. The lineup for this evening of outstanding musical talent are Ralph Stanley & The Clinch Mountain Boys, Ralph Stanley II, Nathan Stanley, Stella Parton, Paul Williams & The Victory Trio, Jack Greene, Tim Stafford, Folk Soul Revival, and Ben "Cooter" Jones from the Dukes of Hazzard. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased at The Paramount box office by calling 423.274.8920 or online at www.etix.com.

"The Ralph Stanley Museum & Traditional Mountain Music Center in Clintwood was the genesis of The Crooked Road: Virginia’s Heritage Music Trail. The challenge of attracting the traveling public to its remote location gave birth to the idea of tying together major traditional music venues including the Blue Ridge Music Center, the Birthplace of Country Music Alliance, and the Carter Fold to create a driving trail centered on the traditional music of Southwest Virginia." Todd Christensen, Executive Director, Southwest Virginia Cultural Heritage Commission

"This event is a tremendous opportunity for our Alliance to honor Dr. Ralph Stanley. We are extremely proud of his accomplishments, his music, and the continuing contributions he makes to Bristol and the Birthplace of Country Music." Fred McClellan, Founding President and Event Coordinator, Birthplace of Country Music Alliance

Artist information:

  • Ralph Stanley & The Clinch Mountain Boys - After 55 years in the business, Dr. Ralph Stanley is still one of the best banjo pickers and tenor singers in bluegrass music.

  • Ralph Stanley II - For the past several years, Ralph II has distinguished himself as lead singer and rhythm guitarist for the Clinch Mountain Boys and currently has four solo projects.

  • Nathan Stanley - the oldest grandson of Ralph Stanley, Nathan has recently begun playing rhythm guitar and singing the lead vocal parts with the Clinch Mountain Boys and has released three albums of his own.

  • Stella Parton - Stella started performing at age nine and has written hundreds of songs and traveled and performed internationally.

  • Paul Williams & Victory Trio - Paul Williams formed the Victory Trio in 1995 and they have continued to release great bluegrass gospel albums through Rebel Records.

  • Tim Stafford - A Kingsport, TN native, Tim helped found the band Dusty Miller, early on was a key player in Alison Krauss & Union Station when it was named IBMA Entertainer of the Year in 1991, and formed Blue Highway in 1994.

  • Jack Greene - As one of country music's most enduring and best-loved stars, Jack toured as a drummer in the Texas Troubadour band for the legendary Ernest Tubb, began a solo career culminating in the 1967 CMA awards, where he swept every major prize including Single of the Year, Album of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year, and Song of the Year for "There Goes My Everything."

  • Ben Jones - Jones has had a long and varied career in show business and political life. He is best known as "Cooter," the amiable sidekick mechanic in the mega-hit television classic, "The Dukes of Hazzard."

  • Folk Soul Revival - an upbeat, rootsy acoustic group from the mountains of Appalachia. Their diversity, creativity and passion are evident among those who have witnessed the boys hone their craft onstage.

"This is an outstanding lineup of individuals to help benefit the Ralph Stanley Museum," commented Bill Hartley, Executive Director of the Birthplace of Country Music Alliance. As an alliance, we are happy to provide logistical support for this event, noted Hartley. He added that both the Birthplace of Country Music Alliance and the Ralph Stanley Museum and Traditional Mountain Music Center are major venues along the Crooked Road. "In times of need, neighbor helps neighbor. Ralph Stanley has helped our organization many times over the years. He is currently serving as a member of our Artistic Council and is a past member of our Advisory Council. We are proud to assist him and the museum."

Tickets are $30 and can be purchased at The Paramount box office by calling 423.274.8920 or online at www.etix.com

The Birthplace of Country Music Alliance is a non-profit organization dedicated to telling the story of the living musical heritage of the Appalachian mountains and the cultural traditions that sustain it.
