News: Steve Wariner Returns to 'A Prairie Home Companion' Today

Event NewsBMNN wrote: on Apr. 10, 2010:
Steve WarinerNashville, TN -- Award-winning recording artist, songwriter, and virtuoso guitarist Steve Wariner returns to A Prairie Home Companion this Saturday, April 10, as it airs live from the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville at 5:00 p.m. CDT. The beloved show is heard by more than four million listeners each week on some 590 public radio stations, and abroad on America One and the Armed Forces Networks in Europe and the Far East. For more information on A Prairie Home Companion, including your local station to tune in for the live broadcast and re-airing on Sunday, please visit www.prairiehome.org.

During his performance Wariner will debut a new song, "Spokes in a Wheel." With a lilting melody and memorable chorus, the lyrics tell us to take care of the earth and each other because "we're all connected, we're all affected by every single thing that we do."

"I wrote this song with my good friend Kent Blazy, and it's been in my ‘favorite' stack for a while," says Wariner. "It was the first song I recorded after completing the Chet project. I just love what it says about how we're all responsible for this planet and what we're leaving to our children. It's also a really positive message about how each of us can make this world better in our own way." The song is available for download at amazon.com.

Wariner will also perform songs from Steve Wariner, c.g.p., My Tribute to Chet Atkins, which earned him a Grammy® Award for Best Country Instrumental Performance for "Producer's Medley." The medley features classic songs by artists Atkins produced, including "And I Love You So" by Perry Como; "Welcome to My World" by Jim Reeves; "The Three Bells" by The Browns; "I Can't Stop Loving You" by Don Gibson; "Java" by Al Hirt; "Let It Be Me" by the Everly Brothers; "End of the World" by Skeeter Davis; and "When You're Hot You're Hot" by Jerry Reed. Produced by Wariner, My Tribute to Chet Atkins is a collection of 11 songs honoring the legendary guitarist and producer who was also his friend, mento r, producer and former employer. The album is available on Wariner's own SelecTone Records, distributed by Allegro Media Group.

Following his performance on A Prairie Home Companion, Wariner will head to the Grand Ole Opry and host a segment for which Garrison Keillor himself will be the guest announcer. It's all part of the special events and excitement of the Opry's 85th anniversary celebration taking place this year. Wariner joined the Grand Ole Opry in 1996.

Wariner will be inducted into the Kentucky Music Hall of Fame in 2011 in a class that also includes the late Keith Whitley, Patty Loveless, John Michael Montgomery, Larnelle Harris, the Goins Brothers and Molly O'Day. He was inducted into the Music City Walk of Fame in 2008 and the National Thumbpickers Hall of Fame in 2009. He has won a total of four Grammy Awards, charted over 30 top-10 songs including 14 #1's, and won CMA Single and Song of the Year Awards in 1998 and the ACM Song of the Year in 1999 for "Holes in the Floor of Heaven." His songwriting has earned him 15 Million-Air Awards from BMI, for songs receiving over a million on-air plays.
