News: Junior Sisk Announces Exciting New Band Changes

Music NewsBMNN wrote: on Apr. 14, 2010:
Junior SiskJunior Sisk made an important announcement regarding Junior Sisk & Rambler's Choice. He informed the bluegrass community of a new band lineup for this season. Junior said, "Just wanted everyone to know Darrell Wilkerson on banjo and Billy Hawks on fiddle have left the band. They were two of the best musicians as well as people I have ever worked with. Darrell and Billy want to take time off to be with their family. Both are new grandparents and I respect that very much as we are going to be away from home allot this year and I'm gonna miss my grandson too!"

Jason Davis will be playing banjo and Greg Moore will be playing fiddle with us now! Junior says, he's "Very excited about the new guys."

Jason used to play banjo with the group Grasstowne. He also just finished up a solo CD that features Tim Stafford, Steve Gulley, Alan Bibey,Phil Leadbetter, Russell Moore, Zak McLamb, Justen Haynes, Alan Perdue, Greg Luck, Jeff Parker, Junior Sisk and Ron Stewart.

Greg Moore, fiddle player, tenor and baritone singer known as "Spanky" a nickname which was gave to him by a legend in bluegrass Mr. Dave Evans. Greg started playing at a young age and was influenced by his grandpa Ray Moore and father Roger Moore which played in a band called the "Moore Brothers out of Northern Indiana. Greg has played with such greats as Dave Evans, Wildwood Valley Boys, and Melvin Goins and Windy Mountain.

The band's new CD just came in this week and the band is looking forward to a great year.

Junior Sisk has lived most of his life in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia where he listened to and played the music that was born there. His songwriting helped The Lonesome River Band in its ascent to bluegrass stardom in the early 1990's, but it was his lonesome, haunting singing that earned him the devotion of traditional bluegrass fans a few years later as a member of Wyatt Rice and Santa Cruz. Subsequently, he assembled Ramblers Choice, which released the acclaimed "Sounds of the Mountains" in 1998, and contributed to the IBMA award winning "The Stanley Gospel Tradition". A brief stint with The Lost and Found followed before Junior took over the lead vocal role for BlueRidge. Junior has been nominated many times for Songwriter and Male Vocalist of the year.
