Alison Krauss and Union Station Receive 3 CMA Nominations

Music NewsBob_Cherry wrote: on Sep. 09, 2005:
Alison KraussBluegrass is a word rarely spoken at the Country Music Association, one name does keep popping up. That name is Alison Krauss. Krauss has collaborated with many country artists over the years and the ambassador of bluegrass garnered three nominations for the 39th Annual CMA Awards.

This could be another great year for these talented artists as it was just recently announced that Alison Krauss & Union Station received 14 Bluegrass Music Awards nominations, including entertainer of the year for the International Bluegrass Music Association's awards show coming up next month.

Last year on November 9th at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville, Alison Krauss added to her growing collection of CMA music awards. The bluegrass music artist's collaboration with Brad Paisley, "Whiskey Lullaby" succeeded in taking the Music Video of the Year and the Musical Event of the Year awards. Prior to this, 2001 was her last CMA award for her work in "O Brother, Where Art Thou."

Artists picking up nominations in multiple categories and incarnations are not uncommon this year. Alison Krauss is nominated for Female Vocalist of the Year (her fourth consecutive year in the category) and in the Vocal Group of the Year category for Alison Krauss + Union Station Featuring Jerry Douglas. And speaking of Douglas, he picks up an additional Musician of the Year nod.

Brad Paisley is again up for numerous awards this year including the coveted Entertainer of the Year, Single of the Year, Song of the Year for "Alcohol", Male Vocalist of the Year, Musical Event of the Year and Music Video of the Year making him one of the leaders of the pack with 6 nominations -- a tie with Lee Ann Womack.

Joining Resonator Guitarist Jerry Douglas for Dobro is Randy Scruggs for his work on Guiter and Mandolin as they both try for the Musician of the Year title.

So, once again, bluegrass makes is face known at the annual CMA awards. Today's country music has it's roots in bluegrass and bluegrass is still a big part of country music. Try as they may, it just keeps on pickin' it's way into the show.

"The 39th Annual CMA Awards" will be broadcast live from New York City's Madison Square Garden, Tuesday, Nov. 15 (8:00-11:00 PM/ET) on the CBS Television Network.

And speaking of awards, Alison Krauss' record label, Rounder Records is due to get a few of its own. The three founders of Rounder Records Ken Irwin, Marian Leighton, and Bill Nowlin will be honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Americana Music Association (A.M.A.) at the 4th Annual Americana Association Honors & Awards at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, this Friday, September 9.
