Announcement: North Carolina Bluegrass Music Band Return to Colorado

Music NewsBMNN wrote: on Feb. 24, 2006:
"Steep Canyon Rangers have won their way into the tight-knit bluegrass community through a mixture of sharp songwriting, instrumental chops and a sound that's deeply traditional without being mired in the past" is how PopMatters.com describes this unique bluegrass band.

Young, traditional bluegrass outfit and Colorado favorites, The Steep Canyon Rangers return to the state in March for several appearances around the state. Their recently released Rebel CD, One Dime at a Time is currently #6 on the national bluegrass chart.

The band has spent the past 5 years making a name for themselves among the hardcore bluegrass enthusiasts with their minimal flash and heartfelt writing and singing. The new One Dime at a Time is produced by Del McCoury's previous long time bass player, Mike bub. the band credits bub for tightening up their arrangements, sharpening the lead and harmony vocals and getting a live feel in the studio.

The Steep Canyon Rangers have come a long way since turning professional in 2001. In addition to the genre's classic tunes, they write and perform mostly original material to create a style all their own.

The Rangers are young, ambitious men: Graham Sharp (banjo, lead and harmony vocals), Woody Platt (guitar and lead vocals), Charles R. Humphrey III (bass and harmony vocals), Mike Guggino (mandolin and harmony vocals), & Nicky Sanders (fiddle and harmony vocals).

On One Dime at a Time, the Steep Canyon Rangers emerge with their own approach to bluegrass - one that honors the music's traditional sound while taking a giant step in a style and direction all their own. These guys make music with power and purity.

Colorado Tour Itinerary:

  • March 30, Boulder, Boulder Theatre
  • March 31, Denver, Swallow Hill Daniels Hall
  • April 2, Carbondale, Steve's Guitars
  • April 4, LaPorte, Swing Station
  • April 7, Durango, Durango Bluegrass Meltdown
This is a band to keep an eye on and one that has already proven that they can entertain.
