News: SPBGMA 33rd Annual Bluegrass Music Awards Nominations Announced

Music NewsBob_Cherry wrote: on Dec. 15, 2006:
SPBGMAThe Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music of America (SPBGMA) will hold their 24th National Convention and the 33rd Annual SPBGMA Music Awards at the Sheraton Music City Hotel in Nashville, Tennessee. The highlight of this grand event is, as usual, is the National Bluegrass Music Awards that are given out each year.

Some people get confused about the various conventions and awards programs that SPBGMA has to offer. For example, the SPBGMA 33rd Annual Bluegrass Music Awards and Midwest Convention will be held on January 12-13-14, 2007. This is not the same awards show or convention but the names are the same (awards show) or similar for the conventions. Both the awards show and conventioin in January are for the Midwest region only. This event will be held at the Capitol Plaza Hotel and Convention Center in Jefferson City, MO.

There will be many bands performing during the national convention at the Sheraton Music City Hotel. Top bands, national bands and regional bands will all be present. Artists performing will include Rhonda Vincent & The Rage, The Grascals, Cherryholmes, The Rarely Herd, The James King Band, the new band Circuit Ricers, Lynn Morris Band, the Country Gentlemen, Blueridge, David Parmley & Continental Divide and many more.

The National Awards program is the big event for the year. Each year, the top bluegrass artists gather to take part in the convention, share their stories and schmooze with the press. They are also there to see who wins the various awards that SPBGMA has in store.

The February 2007 awards show should be exciting as the nominations just announced include some familiar names. We see BlueRidge, Cherryholmes, The Grascals, Blue Highway, Rhonda Vincent and the Rage, the Del McCoury Band, Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver and others in the running for the top awards. But, there are also some new names among the nominations. Names like Adam Seale, James Alan Shelton, Mike Andes, Lorraine Jordan and Carolina Road and others that are also in the nominations. While these artsts are known, it isn't offen that they get recoginzied in the nominations.

Here are the nominations as announced by SPBGMA. Look for your favorites and in February, we will get to see who actually gets the awards.
