News: 49th Grammy Awards for Bluegrass Music

Music NewsBob_Cherry wrote: on Feb. 12, 2007:
49th Grammy AwardsSunday evening was the time for the 49th Grammy Awards. Each year, we highlight those awards that are important to our readers. The categories include the Best Bluegrass Album, the Best Country Instrumental Performance, the Best Southern, Country, Or Bluegrass Gospel Album, Best Country Collaboration With Vocals, the Best Traditional Gospel Album and the Best Southern, Country, Or Bluegrass Gospel Album. The winners are always interesting as we never know which artists from the bluegrass community the Academy will give the awards to. This year was no exception. Some we expected we didn't get. Some were surprises and there were also some disappointments. That is par for the course.

Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder took home the honors for Best Bluegrass Album for his Instrumentals album. As we entered the awards show, there was a great deal of anticipation from the bluegrass music community as Rhonda Vincent entered the awards with a pair of nominations including and the coveted Best Bluegrass Album. Marty Stuart and his Fabulous Superlatives were also nominated in the category for their album Live At The Ryman.

Best Country Instrumental Performance (For solo, duo, group or ollaborative performances, without vocals. Singles or Tracks only.) went to Bryan Sutton & Doc Watson for the song "Whiskey Before Breakfast" from: Not Too Far From The Tree [Sugar Hill Records]

Alison Krauss held enough nominations entering the 40th Grammy awards to push her to the front of holding the most Grammy awards however, she didn't take home a trophy this time around.

Chasing the award for Best Southern, Country, Or Bluegrass Gospel Album we had The Del McCoury Band's Promised Land gospel album in the list. however, the trophy was awarded to Randy Travis for Glory Train.
