New Release: Wilson Family Band New Gospel Abum 'Mercy Road' Released

New ReleasesBMNN wrote: on Sep. 23, 2007:
Mercy Road CoverThe Wilson Family Band is a family bluegrass band consisting of father, mother, son and daughter with a close friend accompanying on bass. We play traditional & contemporary bluegrass including a large repetoire of original music. We pride ourselves on putting on a great show and we always make sure the audience has a memorable & enjoyable time whenever they see us. Along with a new album, the band also has a new bass player, Drew Jones.

After a long summer, the Wilson Family Band's gospel CD is finally available. Clint engineered and produced this project. He received some fine comments from Bill Wolf about his work. Like our last CD, we have recorded a mixture of original songs as well as some old familiar hymns.

"The Wilson Family has the capacity to turn on a crowd and does it again this evening. Katie, with her special rendition of "Five Pound Possum" brings the house down. Perhaps most important in watching this group is the pure love and pride parents Robert & Melissa evidence for Katie & Clint as they play. It's perfectly clear that these two gifted young pickers will be around for quite a while and will enrich the music." Ted Lehmann

Robert Wilson is a simple man. He believes in God and church, his family and bluegrass music...in that order. These simple values have created a bluegrass band performing at a level that excites audiences and draws people to them through their warmth, their musicality and their freshness. The Wilson Family Band includes father Robert on guitar and vocals, his wife Melissa on mandolin, 17 year old son Clint on banjo and vocals and 11 year old daughter Katie on fiddle and vocals. This band's obvious enthusiasm for their singing and playing as well as the bond they establish with festival audiences is infectious and inspiring.

Robert learned to play the guitar and sing with his family in church. He cannot remember a time when music wasn't a part of his life. Robert was a founding member of River Grass Review in the 80s and toured up and down the east coast from New York to Florida. He has found his greatest satisfaction now, singing and performing with his family.

Melissa grew up in Jacksonville, FL playing music with her grandfather and cousin. She played in a local band in her teens and then she met Robert. After filling in for River Grass Review's current mandolin player, she became the full time member for about three years. She left the band to raise their new family.

Clint is a senior in high school. He seems quiet and reserved until he strikes his Huber banjo. That's when his personality shows up. Clint is the 2006 Florida State Sr. Division Banjo Champion, a title he won after playing the banjo for slightly over a year. Not only is he an accomplished banjo player, but he also plays guitar, bass and some mandolin. He is becoming a very good songwriter as well, having written several of the songs the family performs. When not pickin', he enjoys recording and playing golf. Clint also plays banjo for Ernie Evans and Southern Lite.

Katie is eleven years old and in the sixth grade and has been playing the fiddle since June 2006. She has stage presence way beyond her years. She sings with sure strength and tune. Katie is becoming a songwriter with help from her 'hero' Becky Buller. She also enjoys riding her bike and talking on the telephone.

The family is supported by Drew Jones on the bass. Drew is seventeen and lives in Blackshear, GA with his parent’s Andy & Tammy Jones and sister, Ashley. Drew is a very talented young man, playing many different instruments, including guitar, mandolin, dobro and banjo.

The Wilson Family Band plays festivals, churches and private events. "Music is a part of our life. We go to church, school, work and play music. We try to teach God first, family second and bluegrass comes next." These clearly stated values show themselves in every interaction with the family.
