New Release: Cherryholmes Remix of 'This Is My Son' to be Released January 12th

New ReleasesBMNN wrote: on Jan. 05, 2009:
CherryholmesCherryholmes will be releasing their first country single, a remix of "This Is My Son", on January 12th. You can help us out by calling your local radio station and requesting it as often as possble! If you are unsure of which stations are local to you, you can go to www.radiolocator.com. This remix version will also be available for downloads on itunes and the Cherryholmes website very soon, so be looking for that.

The song, "This Is My Son" comes from their Cherryholmes III - Don't Believe album and is Cia's song about parents sending a son off to war. This is just one of many songs showcasing this Entertainer of the Year and Grammy nominated groups songwriting talents. Written and sung by Cia Cherryholmes, the poignant tune "This Is My Son" was inspired by the true story of parental sacrifice in a time of war. Piano and percussion add a country flair to the delicate acoustic album version exhibiting the band's musical progression and fearless approach to composition without losing the instrumental style and family harmonic blend for which they are known.

This video is of Cia as she works on her vocals for the song "This Is My Son". There isn't many shots of her, or the band but we wanted everyone to catch a sneak peak of this amazing song!

Cia Cherryholmes began the band on the guitar in 1999 at age 15. In October of 2000, however, she switched to the banjo. Influenced by the styles of J.D. Crowe, Don Reno, and Jim Mills, she has developed a fast, powerful style of her own. Her banjo plays a major role in the band's hard driving style. Cia is quickly moving to the top as a vocalist as well. Singing harmony, she shines on tenor and high baritone. Her voice has been featured on several other industry projects.

Cherryholmes have been nominated for two Grammys at this year's Grammy Awards: Best Country Instrumental Performance for their song "Sumatra," and Best Bluegrass Album for ‘Cherryholmes III: Don't Believe.' This makes for a career total of four nominations, including Best Bluegrass Album nominations for every single one of their Skaggs Family Records releases.

This has been a banner year for Cherryholmes, whose album has been earning raves from NPR, The New York Times, Billboard, USA Today, and more. Newsweek gushed that the band "explodes with exuberant fiddle, expert banjo, and passionate harmonies." The New York Times said the band engages in "ferocious bouts of fiddling." USA Today and Time Out New York were both especially fascinated with Cia Leigh Cherryholmes, the band's eldest daughter and principal songwriter. USA Today called her "bluegrass' most stunning new female singer," while Time Out kept it simple; to them, she's a "future star."

Up next for Cherryholmes are a string of performances which will dramatically expand their sound. Starting in January 2009, they will begin performing with orchestras around the country. Audiences will hear rescored work from all three of their Skaggs Family-released albums, newly composed material, songs with similar lyrical motifs combined into suites, and more.
