Announcement: Homer and Jethro at Country Music Conference

Music NewsBMNN wrote: on Oct. 08, 2009:
Homer and Jethro/ICMC/ James Atkenson with the International Country Music Converence wrote to share with you further information regarding sessions to be presented at ICMC 2010. Ms. Karen Raizor of Louisville, Kentucky will be presenting on the country comedy team Homer and Jethro. Raizor's presentation "We Hope That You Have Been Amused: The Secret Weapons of Homer and Jethro's Comedy" will be enhanced by the attendance of Homer and Jethro's children. Further aspects of Raizor's presentation will be shared in future ICMC eblurbs. As always, the food, cordial atmosphere, and amenities of The Frist Lecture Hall will further enhance the discussion.

ICMC is welcoming proposals for presentations for ICMC 2010 to be held Thursday noon through Saturday 27-29 May in the Frist Lecture Hall of the Gordon E. Inman Center at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. Proposals should be emailed to James Akenson at JAkenson@tntech.edu with title, a brief description, and the name(s,) institutional affiliation(s), and email address(es) of the presenter(s) no later than Friday, 30 October 2009. Receipt of proposals in advance of the deadline is strongly encouraged. Proposals received to date reflect the diversity of scholarship related to country music and once again promise a first rate, stimulating ICMC.

The ICMC registration fee is $125 and will include substantial food offerings at breakfast, luncheons, and evening socials. You may get a sense of ICMC by checking www.internationalcountrymusic.org. Informal picking will be lead by Mike Fleming and Bill Brown so bring your instrument!

There is no official ICMC hotel. West End Avenue hotels are quite convenient. The Holiday Inn Select on West End Avenue near the Vanderbilt campus and across from Centennial Park is used by many ICMC participants. Other West End hotels include two Hampton Inns and a Courtyard by Marriott. Nashville has the complete range of hotel chains which can be accessed by their respective web pages. You might investigate the Vanderbilt University Scarritt Center for slightly less costly housing. A limited number of Belmont University dormitory rooms are available for persons who wish to substantially cut their lodging costs. The cost is $35 per night. If interested, please contact Don Cusic at Don.Cusic@belmont.edu.
