Phil LeadbetterPhil Leadbetter, affectionately known as "Uncle Phil" is Bluegrass Music's favorite dobro uncle. Phil has been battling cancer for a while now and benefits, concerts and other events are taking place to help him with his enormous medical expenses. Now, Pinecastle Records has opened up their collection and are donating all proceeds to Phil to help with his fight against this disease.

The label has put together digital downloads, CD collections and more. All proceeds through sales of these will benefit Uncle Phil directly. All packages are available through Pinecastle's Phil Leadbetter Benefits page.

The first package is "The Best of Phil Leadbetter" -- a collection of Uncle Phil's personal ten favorites for just $9.99. There is a 5 CD collection of Phil works with Wildfire, Grasstowne and solo for just %50 -- only $10 per CD. The collection includes Slide Effects, The Road Headin' Home, Where Roads Divide, Rattle Of The Chains, The Other Side Of Towne

For those desiring the "Wildfire Package": Two Wildfire albums as instant downloads followed up by both physical CDs in the mail several days later for just $25 and includes Where Roads Divide and Rattle of the Chains.

The "Grasstowne Package" is similar and offers both Pinecastle Grasstowne albums as instant downloads followed up by both physical CDs in the mail several days later consisting of The Road Headin' Home and The Other Side of Towne also for just $25.

The important thing is that the bluegrass community is coming together to help Phil who has given so much to others and the music we all love. Here's a great way to add to your music collection with some outstanding bluegrass music and do something good in the process. That should make you feel good too.

While you're at it, don't forget the Pickin' for Phil Benefit. A medley of gifted bluegrass performers will unite for Pickin' for Phil at The Paramount Center for the Arts Sunday, April 1, 2012.

Tim Stafford, Dale Ann Bradley, Mike Bub, Michael Cleveland, Missy Raines, Kim Fox, Kenny & Amanda Smith, Jim Hurst, Julie & John Pennell, Gena Britt, Don Rigsby and others will take the stage for two shows, at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. to raise money for Phil Leadbetter.

Phil has backed such artists as the late Grandpa Jones and Vern Gosdin. Phil has also been a member of J.D. Crowe & The New South, Wildfire and the group Grasstowne. Along the way he has been Grammy-nominated and has had several International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) nominations. A No. 1 song on the bluegrass charts, a "Best Instrumental Album" by the IBMA and "Dobro Player of the Year" in 2006 are a few of Phil's accolades.

Phil was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma in February 2001. Upon rounds of chemotherapy, his condition was thought to be under control and he could begin a stem cell transplant program. However, a new drug that was given to aid in the process had reverse effects and the cancer cells, thought to be in remission, multiplied. The Paramount shows are to help raise money to aid Phil's recovery.

Tickets can be ordered by calling the Paramount Center at 423-274-8920 Tuesday through Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. or visiting www.etix.com.
