Key Industry Leaders To Participate in Americana Music Conference

Americana Music AssociationNashville, TN -- In addition to showcasing iconic and innovative music, the Americana Music Festival & Conference, presented by Nissan (Sept. 12 - 15) provides a forum to advocate for the creative and economic vitality of the Americana music genre. The conference hosts panels featuring industry innovators sharing knowledge on all facets of the evolving music business in an intimate setting.

Bonnie Raitt and National Public Radio’s Ann Powers will deliver the keynote artist interview on Wednesday, September 12 at 4pm. Other artists will be participating in the conference in both creative workshops and marketing discussions. Noted author Robert Gordon will interview Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Booker T. Jones. Richard Thompson and Tift Merritt will also be featured in Songwriter Sessions at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum.

Bob Santelli of The GRAMMY Museum will lead the panel "100 Years of Woody" about the impact and legend of Woody Guthrie. Eric Ambel (Steve Earle, The Bottle Rockets) and Jimbo Mathus (Squirrel Nut Zippers) will participate in a production panel. Jessie Scott of Music Fog will moderate Robert Ellis, Charlie Faye, John Fullbright, Lera Lynn and Paul Thorn in a performance panel as they discuss how they are making waves, creating classics and sticking to their roots.

The conference, in partnership with local business Parnassus Books, will host “Music in Books” featuring Sylvie Simmons on Leonard Cohen, David Menconi on Ryan Adams and Kinky Friedman on himself.

Additionally, key industry leaders will be on hand at the conference: Ian Rogers from Topspin will lead a business keynote. Steve Savoca (Spotify), Jim Mahoney (A2IM), noted attorney Rosemary Carroll, Sandra Aistars (Copyright Alliance), Sean Coakley (Songlines) and others will speak on various issues regarding the state of today’s music industry landscape, such as: artist growth, fan engagement, grassroots marketing, new technologies, radio and TV & Film.

Live music will kick off at the 11th Annual Americana Honors and Awards ceremony on Wednesday, September 12 at the historic Ryman Auditorium with Bonnie Raitt, Booker T. Jones and Richard Thompson, all previously announced to perform and receive Lifetime Achievement Awards. More exciting performers are to be released in the coming days.

Music industry professionals and those interested in the business of great music can purchase Early Bird Festival and Conference Registrations at the reduced rate of $350 for Americana Music Association members and $450 for non-members before the rate goes up August 1. Registrants receive entrance to all sanctioned daytime conference music, panels and parties, plus priority access to all evening showcase performances. The registration also includes one ticket to the 11th Annual Americana Honors & Awards.
