The Outer Banks and the whole Northeast region of North Carolina has waited a long time for this music festival. Well folks, the wait is over. The first annual Outer Banks Bluegrass Festival is just around the corner! Come hear that old familiar twang, in the tradition of Bill Monroe, Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs and so many other legendary performers.
Come hear today's Bluegrass stars, such as Rhonda Vincent and Doyle Lawson picking their strings outside, under crisp October skies. They are bringing 'em in from all over the country for two days of down home cookin' and good ole Southern pickin'. Join them this October for a fun filled family weekend with the music of our roots, the music of our grandfathers, the music of America.......Bluegrass!
The Outer Banks Bluegrass Festival will feature Rhonda Vincent & The Rage, Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, Nu-Blu, Stoney Creek, Stacy Grubb & Clay Hess, Cumberland River Band, The sleepy Man Banjo Boys, The Hillbilly Gypsies, Sweet Potato Pie, Hard Knox and a whole bunch more. There will be a whole lotta picking of bluegrass music beginning Friday, October 5th and running through Sunday, October 7th.
For the banjo pickers in attendence, there will be a great banjo workshop too. Gary "Biscuit"Davis is the only three-time National Banjo Champion having won Winfield in 1986, 1987 and 2002, and owns dozens of state and regional titles as well.
Gary is a dedicated banjo teacher, very patient with children and slow learners. He performed for fifteen years at Dollywood, playing with Dolly Parton's kinfolks. Being adept at both contemporary country on electric guitar and a banjo whiz, he is one of the most in-demand studio session men in East Tennessee. Recently, he was band leader and banjo player for Dolly Parton on her bluegrass album "Halos & Horns". Gary toured with Dolly for a year to promote that album.
Biscuit is fluent in many music styles, from bluegrass to swing to jazz. As mentioned, he is also an awesome lead guitar player, bluegrass or country or jazz, and brings many lead guitar techniques to his banjo style. He currently works at Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede dinner attraction in Pigeon Forge, is in constant demand in the studio, and somehow finds time to operate his recently opened music store, Biscuit's Music Barn in Pigeon Forge.
There's more than just jamming in the evenints. There will be a "Festival After-Party" Friday and Saturay with a grand finale Bluegrass Bonfire Jam Sunday evening. Check ou the festival web site for ticketing and additional information. This sounds like its going to be a good time for all.
