ROMP Nominated as International Bluegrass Music Event of the Year

ROMP Festival 2012Owensboro, KY -- The International Bluegrass Music Museum in Owensboro, Ky., is proud to announce the nomination of our very own ROMP: Bluegrass Roots & Branches Festival, as a contender for the coveted International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) Event of the Year Award.

The IBMA award announcement ceremony took place Wednesday August 15th in Nashville, Tenn.

ROMP, now in its 9th year of production is held every June in Owensboro, Ky. The festival is a celebration of bluegrass and the related forms of music that went into the mix of bluegrass, such as Appalachian mountain string band music, Scots-Irish, African stomp, blues, jazz, and Cajun.

The annual 3-day event is held at Yellow Creek Park. Throughout the festival one can enjoy workshops, jamming, child activities, and all-night-after-parties. Arts and Crafts Artisans make the festival grounds visually beautiful with handmade clothing, jewelry, toys, instruments and artwork for sale. Owensboro's best chefs are routinely joined by other creative food vendors, providing a wide variety of culinary offerings. Festival attendees also receive free admission to the International Bluegrass Music Museum. ROMP is the largest annual fundraiser for the Bluegrass Museum.

According to Museum Director Gabrielle Gray, "ROMP is an event so many people take pride in and look forward to each year. Its growth and excellence reflect the popularity of bluegrass music worldwide. The museum shares the honor of this nomination with the Pioneers of Bluegrass and all the artists who perform at ROMP. The nomination also recognizes the arts and crafts vendors, Owensboro's best chefs, and the quality of our board, staff and volunteers, the tremendous enthusiasm of our fans, and the generosity and faith of our sponsors."

According to IBMA's website, Awards are voted on by the professional membership of the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA), the trade association for the bluegrass music industry. Results of the balloting will be revealed at the International Bluegrass Music Awardsat Nashville's legendary Ryman Auditorium on Thursday, September 27, 2012. The Awards Show is the centerpiece of World of Bluegrass Week, to be held September 24 - 30 in Nashville, which also includes the IBMA Business Conference and Bluegrass Fan Fest.
