Gibson Brothers Capture 23rd IBMA Entertainers of the Year Bluegrass Award

The Gibson BrothersThe 23rd International Bluegrass Music Award were held the evening of Thursday, September 27th. The Gibson Brothers took home the honors of the coveted Entertainer of the Year. The night was webcast on LiveStream via the International Bluegrass Music Association's (IBMA) Bluegrass Nation website.

The evening was one filled of expectations and surprises. One strong part of the program was remembering all those we've lost during the past year. The remarks by Steve Martin on the late Earl Scruggs was a strong tribute to the man who gave bluegrass it's 5-string sound. The stage lit up with a multitude of banjo players after the Sleepy Man Banjo Boys started the set. It was a solid tribute Earl. Laurie Lewis named off all the banjo players in the ensemble.

The honors for the new Hall of Fame Inductees were a wonderful reminder of the contributions of Doyle Lawson and Ralph Rinzler. Viewers cheered when Doyle indicated he was ready for another 50 years.

The new IBMA Momentum Awards were announced during the program along with the non-performing awards for those who contribute to making bluegrass music as wonderful as it can be.
