2012 Best St. Louis Bluegrass Band to Visit East Peoria

Elemental ShakedownPeoria, IL -- On Saturday, December 15th at 8:00 PM, CornStar Promotions of Pekin, IL and Meadows Ave Tap will host one of the hottest rising bluegrass groups on the Midwestern map. This no-cover charge show will be held at Meadows Ave Tap in East Peoria.

CornStar Promotions & Meadows Ave Tap proudly present Elemental Shakedown, who recently were named St. Louis's Best Bluegrass band by the Riverfront Times. The show will be held at 8:00 PM on Saturday, December 15th and admission will be free. Elemental Shakedown is a 5-piece outfit utilizing traditional bluegrass instrumentation and tight harmonies to get you up moving and wanting more.

Elemental Shakedown members hail from all over the country and find themselves now in the midst of a Midwest bluegrass boom. At their engagements you hear both traditional and very not-so traditional breakdowns and jams of old & new school favorites. The result is that you find yourself very much engaged in the unfolding performance.

Traditions in bluegrass may be as old as St. Louis, however Elemental Shakedown isn't satisfied with being a museum piece. The band members of the band have backgrounds in music about as diverse as the hometowns that helped develop them. They inject into Midwest bluegrass — which often pits purists against progressives — a sorely desired boom of creative energy.

After a few years of developing as artists and arranging well-known favorites as bluegrass tunes, Chris Helmick (guitar), Matt Flory upright bass) and fiddler phenom Alyssa Avery brought on two long-standing St. Louis area music vets to grab the reins of standard bluegrass instruments. They hit the jackpot, with Bob Stuckey (banjo) and Bryan Ranney (mandolin). In 2011, these five began perfecting original compositions which stand up against bluegrass' often rigid boundaries by exploring seldom heard subgenres like jazz-grass, jam-grass, avant-garde-grass and, perhaps most wonderfully, funk-grass. At an Elemental Shakedown show, it's always booty-shaking, foot-stomping fun.
