Down to My Last DollarNashville, TN -- The HillBenders recently signed with Compass Records Group and are getting ready to hit the streets with a reissue of their debut album, Down to My Last Dollar, on January 29th. On their debut album Down to My Last Dollar, the band established their hard-driving contemporary bluegrass sound reminiscent of New Grass Revival. This set of 11 originals and 2 covers was produced by Jeremy Chapman of The Chapmans and features guest appearances from Infamous Stringdusters’ Jeremy Garrett. Lead singer/mandolinist Nolan Lawrence together with band mates Jim Rea and Gary Rea on guitar and bass respectively, banjoist Mark Cassidy and Dobroist Chad “Gravy Boat” Graves channel the rawness and intensity in these well executed arrangements. See below for pre-ordering information.

The HillBenders have quickly become favorites on the festival circuit— their contagious energy, tight-knit vocals and instrumental prowess contribute to their high-octane performances loved by the young and old alike. Since forming four years ago, the group has claimed the Telluride Bluegrass Band Competition championship as well as the National Single Microphone championship and has appeared on some of the most prestigious festivals, including the Philadelphia Folk Festival, Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival, Telluride Bluegrass Festival, the Gettysburg Bluegrass Festival, and the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA)’s Fan Fest. While grounded in bluegrass yet also incorporating influences from country, rock, blues, jazz and Americana, the HillBenders are an exciting addition to the Compass Records roster.

"The HillBenders' bluegrass sounds isn't loose and hippie; It's crisp and dazzling...Down to My Last Dollar is packed with three-minute blasts of instrumental and vocal skill"
- The Riverfront Times

The Compass Records Group is a Nashville-based roots music company called by Billboard Magazine, “one of the greatest independent labels of the last decade.” Run by GRAMMY-winning musicians Alison Brown and husband Garry West, the company provides a thriving haven of creativity for artists and a reliable beacon of quality for roots music fans. The HillBenders are joining a legacy of excellence in bluegrass, with a roster that includes The Gibson Brothers, Peter Rowan, Dale Ann Bradley, Larry Stephenson, and Special Consensus among others.

Undeniably the hottest young band on the acoustic scene, The HillBenders have been winning over audiences from coast to coast with their unique style, original compositions and relentless drive. These buzz-worthy bluegrass whiz-kids are quickly rising above many of their peers and gaining international recognition for their aggressive combination of contemporary influences with traditional inspiration and instrumentation, as well as their infectiously energetic stage performances.

Claiming the championship title at the 2009 Telluride Bluegrass Band Competition helped put The HillBenders on the map, and their recent victory at the 2010 National Single Microphone Championships prove that they continue to be a force to be reckoned with. One look at their 2010 tour schedule confirms that The HillBenders have become a must-see act with appearances at some of the country's premiere music events such as the International Bluegrass Music Association's Fan Fest, Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival, Walnut Valley Festival, Mullberry Mountain Harvest Festival, Telluride Bluegrass Festival, Silver Dollar City's Bluegrass and Bar-B-Q festival and many more.

The HillBenders released their debut album Down To My Last Dollar in spring 2010. Produced by Jeremy Chapman and featuring Jeremy Garrett of the Infamous Stringdusters on fiddle, this highly anticipated release is the first full-length effort from the group. With 11 of the 13 tracks on the album being original compositions, The HillBenders are giving listeners a truly unique experience far from the typical bluegrass fare.

Formed in the spring of 2008, the band's members hail from distant corners of the U.S. but now base themselves in Springfield, MO. Rooted in the traditions of bluegrass, The HillBenders push the boundaries of the genre by combining influences from country, rock, blues, jazz and Americana into their sound to produce something entirely new. Some say it's newgrass, some say it's bluegrass, some say it's neither, but everyone says that whatever it is, it's incredible!
