The Del McCoury Band is currently in Guthrie, Oklahoma with Mumford and Sons at their Gentlemen of the Road festival! Night one of Gentlemen of the Road was one for the books with Marcus Mumford (Mumford and Sons) and Jeff Austin (Yonder Mountain String Band) sitting in for The Del McCoury Bands first set. Also sitting in for the bands set were Larry Kell, Danny Barnes and Mumford fiddler Ross Holmes. Proof again that you never know who is going to show up when Del plays!
In 2012 Mumford and Sons began hosting our Gentlemen of the Road Stopovers, a global series of events in small cities and towns around the world. They spent months selecting unique places, creating venues, building the lineups, planning the aftershows, and getting to know the local people who helped make the whole thing work. The results were some of the most amazing and memorable shows they have ever played – and, they've played a lot of shows! Mumford and Sons hope those of you who made it had as much fun as they did.
This year Mumford and Sons expanded the lineups, changed the format, and worked to improve the experience in ways big and small. They have new towns, new countries, new artists, and new campsites that will become an intimate part of each event. Plus tons of surprises you'll have to see for yourselves! They really couldn't be more excited. But the spirit of the project remains: a music festival that celebrates local people, food and culture, where everyone pitches in and everybody gets something back.
One of those surprises was the event with The Del McCoury Band in Guthrie. The next stopover stop is St. Augustine, Florida. The St. Augustine Stopover takes place September 13-14 and will feature a new lineup of bands. Visit http://www.gentlemenoftheroad.com/st-augustine/ for more information and the schedule.
