Showin' My Roots is a tribute to Ulisse's musical heros including Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, Bonnie Owens, Merle Haggard and Ralph and Carter Stanley. After releasing six albums of nearly all original material she either wrote or co-wrote since 2007, she felt it was time to honor some of her great influences as well as record songs which have been the bedrock of her musical life. The songs are in no way random choices and they are bookended by two original songs written by Ulisse and her husband, bandmate, and frequent co-writer, Rick Stanley.
The CD was co-produced by Ulisse with guitar virtuoso Bryan Sutton and includes the stellar musicianship of Andy Leftwich on fiddle and mandolin, Byron House and Viktor Krauss on upright bass, Rob Ickes on dobro, Scott Vestal on banjo and of course Bryan Sutton on acoustic guitar. Sam Bush played mandolin on the Loretta Lynn classic "Fist City".
Ulisse also looked at this album as a chance to bring in a wide array of guest singers including Larry Cordle, John Cowan, Greg Davis, Carl Jackson,Tony King, Fayssoux McLean, Jerry Salley, Frank Solivan, Rick Stanley, and Larry Stephenson. Newgrass icon Sam Bush is featured on a duet with Ulisse of the song "Take This Hammer."
