The Chris Shelton handmade instrument ws presented to Darrell. Darrell said that this is the first time in all the years of playing that he has had his own signature instrument. The instrument is highlighted with a Darrell Webb signature and a spider web highlight. The signature is found on the solid black body. The final highlight is a spider inlay on the fretboard.
The mandolin is priced at just $3,500 -- a good price for an even better precision instrument. You can see Darrel playing and talking about this new member of the mandolin family.
Hook Mandolins are all hand crafted by Chris Shelton. Chris says, "My intentions were to make one mandolin with my name on it and play it exclusively. However, after the first one (which I still play quite often), I could not stop. I guess I got "Hooked"! Becoming a self-taught student, I began to study everything I could I get my hands on and kept building. Each instrument has been a little different and its own little adventure. I take pride in everything being handmade and the uniqueness that it brings."
The "Hook" name came from an attempt at originality. When Chris was brainstorming for something to inlay on the peg head of his second mandolin, an anchor symbol came to mind. His first anchor was an abalone inlay. When he placed it on the peg head, It reminded him of a hook. So, the search was over - "Get hooked on Hook Mandolins“– a name was born.
