Lyons, CO -- Last December Yonder Mtn String Band threw down an epic evening at the Boulder Theater with special guests Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas, and many others. 100% of the proceeds from that show were donated to our flood recovery here in Lyons. A week ago that generosity came alive in the form of "Yondersod" -- the 7 acres of lush green that now blankets the Planet Bluegrass Ranch. This arrival of green was an emotional transformation that helped us envision, even more clearly, the return of Festivarians and tarps to the Ranch this summer after the 500-year flood that devastated Lyons last September.
To celebrate our rebirth, we're excited to announce another major event on the Planet Bluegrass calendar: the return of the Kinfolk Celebration (Sept. 19-20). To be held a little over a year after the flood, the 2014 Kinfolk Celebration welcomes Yonder Mountain String Band with special guests including John Bell (of Widespread Panic), The Travelin' McCourys, The Milk Carton Kids, and many more back to Lyons this September...
For the 4th time since 2002, Yonder Mtn String Band brings their annual celebration of music and community back to its birthplace at the Planet Bluegrass Ranch. Yonder's 2003 Kinfolk at Planet Bluegrass is documented in the much-loved double-CD Mountain Tracks Vol. 3; their 2012 Kinfolk was a spectacle of camaraderie, musical mania, and the biggest light show ever in Lyons; and the 2014 Kinfolk welcomes some very special musical pals for an inspiring couple days along the St. Vrain River on the final weekend of summer.
Music begins early each afternoon on the main stage, capped by full Yonder shows under the stars each night.
On Thursday evening (September 18), Adam Aijala & Ben Kaufmann of Yonder will perform a special Mabon Concert in the intimate Wildflower Pavilion, exclusively for Kinfolk with camping passes for the on-site campground. If you've joined us for any of their Mabon shows over the past 7 years you know what magic this evening will bring.
Tickets (2-day and single-day) and camping go onsale tomorrow -- Thursday, May 8 -- at 9am MDT at shop.bluegrass.com or 800-624-2422. We'll be offering camping at both Meadow Park and the onsite campground (which includes admission to Thursday's Mabon Concert). As always, Planet Bluegrass charges no handling fees on any tickets.
