Abdingdon, VA -- It's coming and its coming as fast as it can down Virginia's Crooked Road and, its headed for Heartwood in Abdingdon, Virginia. Scheduled for September 25 through 28, 2014, the Abingdon Crooked Road Music Festival will come to life for four days of great bluegrass, old-time and gospel music.
The event kicks off Thursday, September25th with the Crooked Road Jams from 6 pm to 9 pm. That's just to get you warmed up. Join in for some good ol' fashioned pickin' at Heartwood. Bring your instrument and join a circle! Don't play? That's okay! Grab a drink and some dinner off our special BBQ menu and enjoy the music. Friday evening Raisin' Cain & Hollow Ground will keep the rhythm flowing.
Saturday, get ready for seven full hours of the regions top artists including Close Kin, Johnny Williams & Friends, Dry Hill Draggers, Blue Ridge Entertainers, Wayne Henderson & Helen White, Wyatt Rice & Claiborne Woodall, and featuring the Darrell Webb Band.
The Sundasy Gospel Showcase and Ron Ireland will round out the music on Sunday. That's a whole lot of great music packed into four days with plenty of time to experience the Crooked Road, Heartwood and the region. As always, there will be music playing somewhere.
While you're in the region, check out the brand new Birthplace of Country Music Alliance that just opened August 1st. The Blue Ridghe Institute & Museum has many int55eresting exhibits and music as does the Blue ridge Music Center on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The historic Carter Family Fold in Hiltons, Virginia is just a short drive and features a lot of history and music most Friday and Saturday nights.
