IBMA Bluegrass Scholarship Prize - Deadline Extended

A cash award of $100 will be announced at the IBMA Award Ceremony, and presented to the developing scholar who presents the best paper on an aspect of bluegrass music at a juried academic conference within the timeframe of January 2010 - July 2011. "Developing academic scholars" are graduate students in MA or Ph.D. programs, or individuals whose advanced degree was conferred within the last five years.

King of Newgrass at Celebrity Showroom July 9th

Sam BushKnown as the King of Newgrass, Sam Bush, has helped to expand the horizons of bluegrass music. He's the co-founder of the genre-bending “New Grass Revival” which infused bluegrass with jazz, rock, blues, funk and other styles. Bush is an in-demand musician who has played with everyone from Emmylou Harris and Bela Fleck to Charlie Haden, Lyle Lovett and Garth Brooks. "In the acoustic world, I've been pretty lucky to play with almost every one of my heroes. I've gotten to play with Bill Monroe, Doc Watson, Earl Scruggs, I've been to the mountain," says Bush with a smile.

The Fold Brings Out The Dry Hill Draggers July 23rd

Dry Hill DraggersThe Dry Hill Draggers started out in 1981. From Franklin County, Virginia, the group included Jimmy Boyd on banjo and his brother, Billy. Although several of the founding members are now gone, the group has continued in the mountain tradition of a multi-generational, traditional, old time string band. Saturday, July 23rd, 2011, at 7:30 p.m., the Carter Family Fold in Hiltons, Virginia, will present a concert of old time music by the Dry Hill Draggers. Admission to the concert is $7 for adults, $1 for children 6 to 11, under age 6 free.
