Steve MartinIt's not everyday that you have the opportunity to get banjo lessons from Renaissance man and award winning banjo player Steve Martin but one website has changed all that. The Tony Trischka School of Banjo has a series of online lessons from guest Steve Martin where he demonstrates and breaks down how to play 'Hide Behind A Rock', a track from his new album Rare Bird Alert. Students can even watch the videos in slow motion along with hundreds of other beginner, intermediate and advanced banjo lessons available on the site.

The Grayson Highlands Band Makes Carter Fold Appearance July 2nd

The Grayson Highlands BandThe Grayson Highlands Band, from the Jefferson, North Carolina area, plays a variety of old time music, ranging from rousing fiddle tunes to traditional songs and ballads. They are regulars at the Christmas in July Festival, the Albert Hash Festival, the Rugby Fall Festival, the Greater Lansing Area Festival, and the Wayne Henderson Festival. They have also been the guest band on the Gary Poe Live radio show several times, and have won numerous awards at regional fiddlers' conventions. Saturday, July 2, 2011, at 7:30 p.m., the Carter Family Fold in Hiltons, Virginia, will present a concert of old time music by the Grayson Highlands Band. While this is quite a ways off, the exciting part is that the Cherryholmes brothers will be carrying the family torch and continuing the music. Their sister Cia is still performing also.

Heather TwiggAs most of you know, on May 1, 2011 Heather Twigg past fiddler with the bluegrass band Ed Schaeffer & Rattlesnake Hill and her boyfriend Cory Wharton were struck by a car in Johnson City, TN when they were crossing the street to pass out fliers for DelFest. They are both home and healing up from severe injuries, but are now facing substantial amounts of medical bills. Heather does not have health insurance since she is unemployed and was cut off from her unemployment benefits due to separation from being hospitalized. Cory was unable to start his summer job that he got hired for while studying at ETSU and they cannot play gigs just yet until the doctor gives them permission. They would both like to thank everyone for the cards, gifts, prayers, visitors and phone calls. It means a lot to them.

The Dollar Brothers' High Energy Traditional Bluegrass July 17

The Dollar Brothers BandHiltons, VA -- The Dollar Brothers provide a high energy, family-oriented bluegrass show. A traditional bluegrass band, they are from Watauga and Ashe Counties in North Carolina. Darrell Dollar, lead singer and older brother to Barry and Wade, plays mandolin and has written several songs for the group. Barry Dollar plays fiddle and banjo and sings lead and baritone. Wade Dollar, youngest of the three brothers, sings tenor and lead and also plays claw hammer banjo and dobro. Tim Norris, banjo player, is a cousin to the Dollars. Tim also sings, and he plays guitar and piano. From Ashe County, Kevin Miller plays bass and guitar for the band and helps out on vocals.
