Each year the Library of Congress selects 25 recordings that are “historically”, “culturally”, or “aesthetically significant” and are at least 10 years old to be added to the National Recording Registry, with selections that are being added to the registry now bringing the total number of recordings to 350.
Doc Watson expert Dr. Kent Gustavson is the author of Blind But Now I See: The Biography of Music Legend Doc Watson. The new edition of this award-winning biography of guitarist and traditional bluegrass singer Arthel “Doc” Watson, released in March 2012 (Sumach-Red Books, New York), chronicles the life and times of the beloved musician. Watson died in North Carolina after abdominal surgery on May 29, 2012. A sample chapter from the book can be found at Sample Chapter.

I recently had the advantage of attending a relatively new festival. The festival was having their third event and the third event is usually where a festival starts to gets its fan base, personality and becoming established. To achieve that goal, the producers rely on learning as they go, managing the event and yes, providing entertainment that justifies the cost of the ticket.

Ralph Stanley, a bluegrass legend, will perform June 8 with his group the Clinch Mountain Boys and will dedicate his performance to Watson, his longtime friend, stage partner and fellow bluegrass music legend.

The movie, starring Henry Thomas, Jesse James, Fred Dalton Thompson and Kaley Cuoco, focuses on the period when Williams was getting his life back in order after drugs, alcohol, two failed marriages and a hair-trigger temper had nearly ruined Williams’ legendary career. In late 1952, he had arranged several New Year’s shows in West Virginia and Ohio. Hank Williams never got there. Somewhere on that last highway, the country music legend passed away on New Years Day, in 1953, in the back of his powder blue Cadillac, carrying only his guitar and a notebook full of unfinished songs. He was 29.

Many of you may remember "Ye Old Fiddler's Picnic" at the Wayne County Fairgrounds in Palmyra, New York from 1970-1984. The producers remember going there in the late 70's and watching the bands perform, it was a lot of fun!! They're sure that was the kickstart to many musical adventures they have had since.

Both have performed with bands from bluegrass-rich areas of Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, and Virginia—Tom with Jerry Williamson & Redwing, The Larry Stephenson Band, Rhonda Vincent and the Rage, and with Nashville songwriter Kim Fox in the group 3 Fox Drive... Chris with Gerald Evans and Paradise, The Wildwood Valley Boys, the James King Band, and The Karl Shiflett and Big Country Show. The duo is projecting a release date of June 2012 for their first Feller and Hill and the Bluegrass Buckaroo project.
