J.E. Mainer to be Inducted into North Carolina Music Hall of Fame

J.E. MainerKannapolis, NC -- J.E. Mainer, born in Buncombe County in 1898 and went on to lead “J.E. Mainer’s Mountaineers,” one of the leading Appalachian string bands during the 1930s. Growing up in the western part of the state, J.E. Mainer worked in the cotton mills and played the fiddle; during the early 1920s he settled in Concord NC and formed a band. In 1932 he was on WBT in Charlotte. Other bluegrass music related artists include Clyde Moody, Curly Seckler, Doc Watson, Andy Griffith, Earl Scruggs, and others.

Cindy BaucomWilkesboro, NC -- The Wilkes Heritage Museum is pleased to announce the Fifth Annual Blue Ridge Music Hall of Fame dinner and induction ceremony at the Stone Center for Performing Arts on Saturday, June 9, 2012. The 2012 inductees include: George Hamilton IV, Nationally Known Artist; Robert "Tut" Taylor, Master Musician and Tradition Bearer; DeWitt "Snuffy" Jenkins, Regional Musician; David Holt, Recording Industry; The Chuckwagon Gang, Gospel; Cindy Baucom, Promoter, Organizer, and Special Contributor; Charlie Poole, Pioneer Artist; William "Oliver" Swofford, Honorary Inductee; and Dr. T. R. Bryan for a special Wilkes County Heritage Music Award.
