Birthplace of Country Music Reveals Symbolism Within the Sign

Clay Prewitt Sings StatelineBristol, TN/VA -- /BCM/ Birthplace of Country Music® held a press conference Friday afternoon to reveal more than the newly fastened sign at the entrance of Birthplace of Country Music® Museum. BCM representatives exposed the special meaning residing within the structure. It was impossible to hide the rather large, aluminum sign being hoisted to the second story of the museum this week. In fact, passersby and shutterbugs were quick to notice the impressive piece almost as soon as it went up. alt=

BCM Partners with ETSU for Mountain Stage

Mountain StageThe Birthplace of Country Music® (BCM) and East Tennessee State University will work together during the Johnson City Sessions Weekend, to be held October 18-20, 2013, in Johnson City, Tenn., to bring West Virginia Public Broadcasting's "Mountain Stage with Larry Groce" to ETSU's DP Culp Center that Sunday. The line-up includes the singer-songwriter and instrumental duo of Tim O'Brien and Darrell Scott, bluegrass phenom Sarah Jarosz, and Old Man Luedecke.

Historic Johnson City Sessions Due in Early October

The Johnson City SessionsBristol, TN/VA -- Last April, Cybergrass reported on the John City Sessions project. The project is a young sibling of sorts to the Birthplace of Country Music's The Bristol Sessions. The Birthplace of Country Music (BCM) and East Tennessee State University (ETSU) are working together for the Johnson City Sessions Weekend to be held October 18-20. Birthplace of Country Music a Partner in Bringing "America's Music" to Bristol

 Birthplace of Country MusicBristol, TN/VA -- The Bristol Public Library (BPL) is hosting a new six week program series entitled “America’s Music: A Film History of Our Popular Music from Blues to Bluegrass to Broadway.” The series features documentary film screenings and scholar-led discussions of twentieth-century American popular music. The series allows audiences to focus on uniquely American musical genres including blues and gospel, Broadway, jazz, bluegrass and country, rock n’ roll, mambo and hip hop. The first session—Blues and Gospel—will take place July 13 at 11:00 a.m. in the J. Henry Kegley Meeting Room at the Library. Sessions will continue on each Saturday through August 10, 2013.

New Birthplace of Country Music Museum Breaks Ground

Friends of 1927/BCM/ Bristol VA/TN -- The New Year signals new beginnings for many and that certainly goes for the Birthplace of Country Music®. "On December 21 we closed on construction costs to bring the museum up to exhibit status," reports Becky Littleton, Director of Finance at BCM. That means construction on the 24,000 square foot museum and 100-seat performance venue is in full swing with Bristol-based BurWil Construction Company driving the cranes.

Mumford's Gentlemen of the Road Economic Impact Study Revealed

Gentlemen On The Road TourBristol, TN/VA -- August 11, 2012 will go down in history as the day British folk rockers Mumford & Sons invaded Historic Downtown Bristol, Tennessee and Virginia with their Gentlemen of the Road Tour--and brought 17,500 music fans with them. Gentlemen of the Road Tour made four stops in the United States, and Bristol was the only Stopover in the southeast. Now we know the full benefit of such an event to our community in the way of tax revenue to the Bristol region.

Birthplacee of Country Music to Begin New Museum Construction Nov. 1

BCMA StaffBristol, TN/VA - Thursday morning at 11:00am the Birthplace of Country Music announced that fundraising for the Birthplace of Country Music Museum is now complete and construction will begin on the former Goodpasture Motors building, located on the corners of Moore and Cumberland Streets in Historic Downtown Bristol, VA, the first of November. The expected completion date for the project is August 2014, just in time for fans coming to the twin cities for the summer race at Bristol Motor Speedway and Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion.
