DC Bluegrass Union Launches the Mike Auldridge Instrumental Contest

Mike Auldridge Instrumental ContestThe DC Bluegrass Union has launched the Mike Auldridge Instrumental Contest to honor the life and musicianship of one of America's greatest players. The competition will spotlight the best original compositions from bluegrass, old-time and related musicians around the world. Auldridge's effortlessly tasteful Dobro guitar work borrowed from Josh Graves, but added swing, blues and horn influences to arrive at a uniquely new sound.

Hazel DickensThe 2017 Hazel Dickens Song Contest is open for entries, top prize $500! Celebrating the life and music of groundbreaking bluegrass songwriter and musician Hazel Dickens, the third annual contest seeks to bring attention to the finest in original bluegrass songwriting. Top prize $500 and a performance at the 2017 DC Bluegrass Festival, 2nd prize $250, 3rd prize $100. Entries must be received by January 5, 2017.

Ben Eldridge Honored with 2015 Washington Monument Award

Ben EldridgeDCBU president Randy Barrett presented the 2015 Washington Monument Award to Ben Eldridge, banjo player of the Seldom Scene, during their amazing performance at the DCBU Bluegrass Festival last Friday night, February 27 2015. The award honors his 40 years of bluegrass as a founding and continuing member of the Seldom Scene.

Inaugural Hazel Dickens Song Contest Winners Announced

Hazel DickensIn a special announcement from the DC Bluegrass Union, the Union offers congratulations to all the winners and a very appreciative "Thank you!" to all who entered the contest. There were 81 songs submitted by 45 different songwriters. The association was glad to be part of such a creative community.
