Mac Wiseman Inducted to Country Music Hall of Fame

Mac WisemanNashville, TN -- /CMA/ Nashville, TN -- The Country Music Association announced today that Mac Wiseman, Hank Cochran, and Ronnie Milsap, and will become the newest members of the revered Country Music Hall of Fame. “Induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame is the highest honor achievable for a Country Music artist, songwriter, or industry leader and this year’s inductees are all highly deserving,” said Sarah Trahern, CMA Chief Executive Officer. “Hank’s songs have been recorded by everyone from Burl Ives to Etta James, George Strait to Ella Fitzgerald. Mac is a revered figure in the world of bluegrass and a founding Board member of the Country Music Association. And Ronnie is an incredibly gifted pianist and performer who is also one of the most successful and versatile crossover artists in our genre.”

Bluegrass Innovator and Pioneer George Shuffler has Died

George Shuffler Bluegrass Hall of Fame Recipient, George Shuffler passed away yesterday, April 7th, just shy of his 89th birthday. Shuffler was born in Valdese, North Carolina on April 15, 1925. Affectionately known as "The Third Stanley Brother" performed on many of bluegrass music's most historic recordings. George toured 20 years with the Stanley Brothers where he developed his unique cross picking guitar style that has been a big influence to many musicians. He was inducted into the International Bluegrass Music Association’s Hall of Fame in 2011 and was a recipient of the North Carolina Heritage Award in 2007. In 2011, Shuffler was inducted into the International Bluegrass Music Association's Hall of Fame along with Del McCoury. George Shuffler’s influences in bluegrass are as an innovative bass player, guitar stylist and featured vocalist and humorist, primarily as a sideman in some of the most important bands in the music’s history.

Bluegrass Artist David Davis Begins 30th Anniversary

David DavisMany mark their 30th anniversary with the lustre of pearls as a gift, David Davis and the Warrior River Boys begin its 2014 milestone with a nomination for its leader. Davis will appear at the 39th Annual National Old Time Country, Bluegrass and Old Time Folk Music Festival in LeMars, Iowa on August 25. Davis of Cullman, Ala. is included among the nominees to the National Old Time Country Music Hall of Fame beside Hee Haw star Lulu Roman and John Carter Cash.

Balsam Range's Marc Pruett Remembers Hall of Fame Inductee Paul Warren

Marc PruettNashville, TN --- In the wake of winning Album of the Year at the IBMA awards, Balsam Range’s banjo player Marc Pruett paused at a table backstage which held the plaques for Hall of Fame inductees Tony Rice and Paul Warren. Gently touching the plaque for Warren, Pruett was overhead saying simply, “Aw, I miss him. He was my friend.”

Musicians Hall of Fame & Museum Reopens at New Location

Musicians Hall of FameOn August 9th, 2006 Cybergrass wrote about the opening of the New Musicians Hall of Fame. Now, 7 years later, the organization has a new home. The Nashville Municipal Auditorium will be the new home to the museum that was displaced by the Music City Center project. The new name of the Arena will be The Musicians Hall of Fame at Nashville Municipal Auditorium. All those years ago, The Musicians Hall of Fame & Museum would spotlight session musicians and others. The Musicians Hall of Fame & Museum opened in June of 2006 with high expectations. Over the years, it has continued to grow and evolve even higher!

2013 Blue Ridge Music Hall of Fame Inductees Announced

5th West Virginia Music Hall of Fame Inductees Announced

Randall Franks Inducted to Independent Country Music Hall of Fame

Carter of the Carter Family, Pop Stoneman of the Stoneman Family, Uncle Dave Macon and Fiddlin’ John Carson in the Independent Country Music Hall of Fame. Franks was inducted alongside several industry friends including Leona Williams, Razzy Bailey, Jean Shepherd, Jimmy C. Newman, the late Billie Jo Spears, Glenn Douglas Tubb, Jerry and Helen Burke, Leslie Elliott, Jim Lusk, Phyllis Cole and the late Johnny Carson.

SGMA Class of 2013The Southern Gospel Music Association’s (SGMA) announced April 19 the 2013 inductees to the SGMA Hall of Fame. Dr. Jim Goff, induction committee chairman, made the announcement. In the living category are Polly Lewis Copsey, “Little” Roy Lewis, Duane Nicholson and Tim Riley; and in the deceased category - John T. Benson, Jr. and Thomas A. Dorsey.

Bobby Bare, “Cowboy” Jack Clement, Kenny Rogers to Country Music Hall of Fame

Bobby BareNASHVILLE – The Country Music Association announced today that Bobby Bare, “Cowboy” Jack Clement, and Kenny Rogers will become the newest members of the revered Country Music Hall of Fame. Rogers will be inducted in the “Modern Era Artist” category, while Bare will be inducted in the “Veterans Era Artist” category. Clement will be inducted in the “Non-Performer” category, which is awarded every third year in a rotation with the “Recording and/or Touring Musician Active Prior to 1980," and “Songwriter” categories. Bare, Clement, and Rogers will increase membership in the coveted Country Music Hall of Fame from 118 to 121 members.

2012 Central Canadian Bluegrass Award Winners Announced

It is a lot of work for the people involved in this business but, if you love bluegrass, its just a whole bunch of fun too! This year's attendance was almost a thousand bluegrass fans and friends.

The Watkins Family Inducted into Atlanta Country Music Hall of Fame

The Watkins FamilyThe acoustic music of the Watkins Family has thrilled audiences for more than 30 years and the Atlanta Country Music Hall of Fame recently recognized that accomplishment. The group from Toccoa, Ga. currently includes matriarch Judy Watkins and her two adult children - Todd and Lorie. They continue a path sharing their love of Jesus through acoustic music touring across the United States and Canada.

Lester & Earl's “Foggy Mountain Banjo” in 2013 Grammy Hall of Fame

Foggy Mountain BanjoSanta Monica, CA -- It was 1961 when Lester Flatt, Earls Scruggs and the Foggy Mountain Boys released Foggy Mountain Banjo on Columbia records. The album is part of the 2013 Grammy® Hall of Fame Inductees for Country (album). "The Titanic" by Ernest V. "Pop" Stonemen is also an inductee for Country Single and was released on Okeh in 1924. These join the legendary Bob Dylan song "The Times They Are A-Changin'" and many others. 2013 marks the 40th Anniversary Celebration of the Grammy® Hall Of Fame with 27 recordings added to the collection residing at the Grammy® Museum®.
