Carter Family Fold Special Concert June 6th

Mountain Park Old-Time BandFriday, June 6th, 2014, at 7:00 p.m. the Carter Family Fold in Hiltons, Virginia, will present a special concert to celebrate the donation of an AED (automated external defibrillator) from Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center and the Level One Heart Attack Network to our venue. Holston Valley employees and co-workers are especially encouraged to attend this free concert. Wristbands for employee event admission are available in the Wellmont HVMC Human Resources office on a first-come, first-serve basis – four per employee. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend as well. In lieu of admission, please bring a donation of canned goods for the Second Harvest Food Bank. Dr. Mark Handy and the Mountain Park Old Time Band will be our featured band, but there may be some other guest performers.

Over the past several years, the Mountain Park Old Time Band has been creating a stir in old time music circles. The group has five members, all of whom are very versatile and talented musicians. Saturday, March 1st, 2014, at 7:30 p.m., the Carter Family Fold in Hiltons, Virginia, will present a concert by the Mountain Park Old Time Band. Admission to the concert is $10 for adults, children 6 to 11 $1, under age 6 free.

The group has five members, all of whom are versatile and talented musicians. Johnny Gentry plays guitar, dobro, and fiddle as well as doing vocals for the band. Nancy Gentry plays upright bass and sings. The only thing better than one fiddler, is two fiddlers. Roger Stamper also plays the fiddle. C. T. Janney plays the washboard – an “instrument” rarely played today. Dr. Mark Handy plays banjo and does vocals. When he’s not playing old time, Dr. Handy practices medicine in Abingdon, Virginia. Saturday, October 19th, 2013, at 7:30 p.m., the Carter Family Fold in Hiltons, Virginia, will present a concert by the Mountain Park Old Time Band. Admission to the concert is $10 for adults, children 6 to 11 $1, under age 6 free.

Mountain Park Old Time BandThere will be a film crew from African television doing a segment entitled Country Hart met Juanita – A Journey to the Heart of Country. The film segment will feature Juanita Du Plessis, a South African singer who has won multiple CMA awards in her native Africa. She has been voted the most popular artist in South Africa, has released 11 CDs and 5 DVDs, and has had a total of 44 platinum awards. Country Hart met Juanita is a road trip through the southern states in search of the influences of country music. Saturday, March 23rd, 2013, at 7:30 p.m., the Carter Family Fold in Hiltons, Virginia, will present a concert by the Mountain Park Old Time Band.
