Burnett, Welch, Rawlings Receive American Master Awards

Berklee College of Music presented American Master Awards to legendary record producer, songwriter and recording artist T Bone Burnett, and acclaimed roots duo Gillian Welch and David Rawlings – both Berklee alumni – at a special Tuesday night edition of Music City Roots, the variety weekly music broadcast from the Factory in Franklin, TN. Welch and Rawlings took the stage after accepting their awards and performed songs including "The Way it Goes," and "Look at Miss Ohio." Burnett joined them for "Everything is Free." Berklee alumnae Sierra Hull, Liz Longley, and Maureen Murphy also performed at the event, hosted by Jim Lauderdale. The American Master Award is presented by Berklee to industry leaders whose openness, generosity and deep commitment to music education have made a positive impact on the lives of young musicians, providing them opportunities to grow as artists and leaders.

Boston Bluegrass Union Announces 2015 Heritage Awards

Boston, MA -- The Boston Bluegrass Union (BBU) is proud to announce the recipients of the 2015 BBU Heritage Awards. These awards are presented each year by the BBU to honor artists and those working behind the scenes that have made substantial contributions to furthering bluegrass music in New England and beyond. Workshops Announced for FreshGrass Sept 20-22 Bluegrass Festival

MASS MoCANorth Adams, MA -- The FreshGrass Festival at Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art’s (MASS MoCA) has one of the best line-ups in bluegrass and now they have a workshop line-up to match. During the weekend you will be able rest your dancin' feet, and take part in our lively workshop offerings which range from theory classes to instrument-specific playing techniques. All workshops are free with admission. Space is limited so register on the day of the event when you arrive at the festival -- first come, first serve. Workshops will be held throughout the FreshGrass festival weekend, September 20-22, on the campus of MASS MoCA.

Carole King, Willie Nelson, and Annie Lennox To Receive Honorary Doctorates

Bluegrass Artist Alison Krauss Receives Berklee Honorary Doctorate Degree

Alison KraussClose to 900 graduates from 58 countries received degrees Saturday, May 12 at Berklee's 2012 commencement. Berklee president Roger H. Brown presented honorary doctor of music degrees to 27-Time Grammy Award winner Alison Krauss, Rock and Roll Hall of Famers the Eagles, and innovative Ethiopian musician Mulatu Astatke.
