Suwannee Banjo Camp, March 27-29, 2015, is Open for Business

Suwannee Banjo CampLive Oak, FL -- It is time to announce that the 2015 Suwannee Banjo Camp, in Live Oak, Florida, is open for business. The Suwannee Banjo Camp takes place March 27-29, with an optional extra day on March 26th. Our camp features classes, demonstrations, concerts and jams, in bluegrass and old-time banjo styles, and includes a guitar track and fiddle track, as well as instruction in minstrel banjo and the African akonting (ekonting).

Banjo Camp North 2013Banjo Camp North is a weekend-long celebration of the 5-string banjo in both old time and bluegrass styles! World-class banjoists make up our full-time and "adjunct" faculties. We have invited several top flight fiddlers and guitarists to teach about playing with other instruments and jamming, and to be on hand to help make those all-night jams something special. Plus we will emphasize banjo and fiddle duet playing. Another area of study is singing, solo and group.

Scholarships Available to Pete Wernick’s Advanced Banjo Camp

Pete (Dr. Banjo) WernickPete Wernick announces the availability of two scholarships to his 2014 Advanced Banjo Camp, January 20-25 in Boulder, Colorado. The camp is geared to players in performing bands and focuses on tone, timing, “believability”, creativity, band dynamics, and performance. The scholarships are intended for pickers who would need financial help to attend the camp.

Pete Wernick Announces 2013 Banjo Camp Scholarship Winner

Jacob PanicThe Stelling Banjo Scholarship to Pete (“Dr. Banjo”) Wernick’s Advanced Banjo Camp has been awarded to 26 year-old multi-instrumentalist Jacob Panic, of Baltimore, Maryland. Already a talented banjo player, singer, and songwriter, Jacob aspires to a career in bluegrass music and has recorded an album of original songs on which he plays all the instruments. Reflecting on the award, Jacob says, "I'm humbled and grateful to Pete and Stelling. Pete Wernick is one of my banjo heroes."

Pete (Dr. Banjo) WernickSince offering the original “banjo camp” in 1984, Pete “Dr. Banjo” Wernick has conducted nearly a hundred of them, hosting over 1,500 students from around the world. In January 2013 he will host his 29th annual winter camps at the Boulder Inn in Boulder, Colorado. The camp consists of three “full-immersion” weeks: Basic Skills, Intermediate, and Advanced. Pete Wernick Announces Banjo Camp Scholarship Winners

Pete (Dr. Banjo) WernickPete ("Dr. Banjo") Wernick will host two scholarship winners at his January 2012 Advanced Banjo Camp. Jim Gabehart of Hinton, West Virginia, will attend thanks to the generosity of Stelling Banjo Works, and Jordan Alleman of Portland, Oregon is the recipient of donations received at last January's annual Banjo Camp concert. Jim and his wife lead a band that plays throughout the east, and Jordan, 18, will start studies at Berklee College of Music in the fall.
