Young Scholarship Winners to Wernick's MerleFest Jam Camp

Pete Leading Cabin Stage CampersPete Wernick announces two youngsters from western North Carolina as scholarship winners for his Bluegrass Jam Camp in Boomer, NC: Liam Purcell, 10, of Deep Gap and Kinsey Green, 14, of Boone are both multi-instrumentalists, immersed in bluegrass through families who value this tradition. Pete says, “It's good to see local kids learning the local music, and we're very glad to be able offer them this additional opportunity.”

MerleFest 2013 to Feature Special Tributes to Doc Watson

Doc WatsonWilkesboro, NC -- When MerleFest, presented by Lowe’s and slated for April 25-28, 2013, kicks off on Thursday afternoon, it will be a bittersweet moment. The four-day event, an annual homecoming of musicians and music fans, will once again take place on the campus of Wilkes Community College in Wilkesboro, North Carolina. But for the first time in its 26 years, MerleFest will take place without beloved music icon Doc Watson, who passed away on May 29, 2012.

Full Scholarship Available to Pete Wernick’s Pre-MerleFest Bluegrass Jam Camp

The camp, open to pickers of all bluegrass instruments, runs Monday through Thursday, April 22-25, immediately prior to MerleFest. It offers both basic skills and intermediate tracks.

Music City Roots Partners with MerleFest

Nashville, TN -- Music City Roots: Live From The Loveless Cafe announces its partnership with MerleFest for a special kickoff event at the multi-platform Nashville concert series prior to the North Carolina festival. Set for April 24, 2013, at 7 p.m., Nashville’s “coolest show” will devote an evening to the talent appearing at the 26th year of the festival.

Chris Austin Songwriting Contest Feb 19 Deadline Rapidly Approaching

Applications have been open since August and the final February 19 Deadline is rapidly approaching. There are two ways to enter the contest. Songwriters may submit their applications via U.S. Mail (P.O. Box 121855, Nashville, TN 37212). Entries may also be submitted through Sonicbids (www.sonicbids.com/chrisaustinsongwritingcontest). Now in its 21th year, the contest is an extraordinary opportunity for aspiring writers to have their original songs heard and judged by a panel of Nashville music industry professionals, under the direction of this year’s volunteer contest chairperson, Grammy®-winning singer/songwriter Jim Lauderdale.
