Ralph Stanley Farewell Tour 80+ Date Event Begins Oct. 16

Dr. Ralph StanleyNashville, TN -- Now 86 years old and still in superb voice, the revered country and bluegrass singer Dr. Ralph Stanley will commence his final tour Oct. 16, 2013. It will run through December 2014. The event, which is projected to encompass more than 80 shows at festivals, folk clubs and performing arts centers, is being billed as Man Of Constant Sorrow Tour: The Dr.’s Farewell. (The title “Dr.” comes from the fact that Stanley holds an honorary doctorate in music from Lincoln Memorial University and has worn that title since it was awarded in 1976.)

Two Big Fundraising Concerts for Song of the Mountains

(Stanley has been referred to as Dr. Ralph Stanley since receiving his honorary doctorate in music from Lincoln Memorial University in 1976.) For his third Rebel release, Rigsby chose to pay homage to Stanley with Doctor’s Orders, so named because Stanley helped choose the track listing from Rigsby’s master list of five dozen Ralph Stanley and Stanley Brothers recordings. “I wanted people to see my roots for what they are,” says Rigsby about his decision to make a tribute album. “I want the world to know that Ralph’s music is what makes me tick.”

Nathan Stanley Joins Ralph Stanley and the Clinch Mountain Boys at Carter Fold

Ralph and Nathan StanleyNathan Stanley is the oldest grandson of Ralph Stanley. He picked up the spoons at six years old, playing on stage with the Clinch Mountain Boys, and became a crowd favorite. He has spent several years playing mandolin for the group. More recently, Nathan has begun to sing lead and play rhythm guitar. He has released four CDs, two of which are gospel.
